Ok, so I got brave and did the alcohol cleaning with a new lint free cloth gotten with my eyeglasses I hadn't used. While it didn't appear dirty to the naked eye, there was some what appeared to be dirt come off. I cleaned both sets of contacts, camera & lens. I then did a bunch of practice shots of the hubs, dog and random stuff and while it appeared to be better, it sporadically acted up, but also operated as expected at times. So I just don't know. I feel like I'll continue working with it until I get tired of it or miss the perfect shot because of it. Thx again sincerely to those of you who took the time to give me helpful feedback. I really appreciate it.
Welcome to UHH Didi, glad you joined us. Have you contacted Canon concerning your problem? They may give you some additional insight. Another question, why did you buy a Nikon flash for a Canon camera? If it was because of your daughter she gave you some bad advice.
Have fun, learn and enjoy the forum.

Welcome aboard, enjoy. Sounds like maybe a cleaning of some sort but be careful.
I'm sorry if I wasn't clear earlier, but it was an extra Canon Speedlight flash I got for my camera.
Sorry, I forgot to reply to your question about contacting Canon about my AF problem, no I sure haven't. That might be something I should consider. Thx
Welcome to the forum. I'm sure that there are members on this forum who have had "hunting" problems with canon lenses at times. They will be glad to help you. One of my Nikon lenses hunts in low light. I've learned to live with that and go to manual focus in that situation with that lens.

Aloha Didi and welcome to UHH. Hope you have luck in getting your camera/lens repaired. You might contact Canon and see if they might give you a figure in having it repaired. Good luck and we hope you will post some photos with whichever camera you'll be using in the future.
