When using non-photographic bright lights try using large white paper bags over these lights, and even your strobe. The bags will act like a modifier which will soften those glaring light spots on the mandolin. You can find those bags at a bakery, or gas station that sells food items.

I used to use a facial tissue in front of my flash. Now I have graduated to using a coffee filter as it is more robust. I didn't have either on the mandolin photo. And I detest having to put up with noticeable shadows that I could control with studio lights if they were available. The speed at which we work makes perfect shots pretty elusive. On a full day it is not uncommon for us to have only a minute to make all of our shots. As much as it galls me the mantra is "adequate not perfect."

OOps. no text. What I meant to say--Take a serious look at the Pentax K-1 and the 28-105 set up for the same money. A pro level camera for about the same money. The 2 are sold as a kit from B&H

Awesome looking camera. Unfortunately, as are many others here, I am chained to the Canon EF system through my collection of lenses. I'd love to have the flexibility and $$$ to have multiple systems but lens interchangeability is my big nod to some small economy here.

Being "chained" to Canon lenses is not such a bad thing. You have the best of three worlds, EF-S (if you a cropped sensor camera) EF, and EF L quality lenses.

There are large monitors 6-8" that attach to your camera that will solve your eye issues if that's all there is to it. Even if you buy a newer camera a large monitor would be very helpful.

As Gerald Ford said, "Our long national nightmare is over." Folks as of 2pm yesterday I am the proud owner of a spankin' new 6DII. It is a monster compared to my 10D. I will have a lot to learn but I have taken a few test shots with it and am impressed. It is, however, heavy with the 24-105 lens and I can see some folks not wanting it because of that weight. I will post photos when I have the time to really get to know it.
