I do principle photography for an auction company where all auctions are conducted on line. As such the photos are very important and we take a lot of them depending on the value of the item or group of items. I do a lot of table top work where we lay out a "lot" of items. We work mainly with on camera flash but do occasionally use large softboxes. In addition we take photos of furniture, automobiles and even houses that are up for auction. Since these are going on line we dfo not need a lot of megapixels and in fact most of our photos are 500KB or less as uploading large photo files is prohibitively slow and really doesn't add to the viewer experience.

I am currently using a Canon 10D with an EF 24-85 zoom and Speedlight 430EXII flash and getting good results but feel I am fighting the camera a lot and chimping is problematic with the small LCD panel and my tired old eyes.

I am thinking about getting the new Canon 6D MkII and the 24-105 f/4L IS II USM series lens that will be shipped as a kit. I thought about just getting the lens and tried it out at a local camera store but that does not solve the problem I have reviewing the shots in the camera. And it is a fantastic lens IMHO.

Please tell me I am nuts and need to save my money.

Good choices. If you don't need the performance/ruggedness of the 5D4, then the new 6D2 is an excellent choice and the 24-105L will not disappoint - especially the MK2 version. Plenty wide on a FF, well built, IS, and decent FL range from wide to portrait. Just a great all purpose combination that will likely serve 90% of your needs. Just go buy it!

I am not convinced you need to go to a 6DII. perhaps a 70D or 80D, or T6i or T7i. here is why I would suggest one of these - these cameras as well as the 6D and 6DII are capable of wirelessly connecting to a tablet or wired to a laptop. Your use involves setting up an object, setting your lighting and shooting - from a tripod, I would suspect. Using a tablet to control your camera and reviewing the photos will make your job immensely easier.

My brother, who taught me photography, sells on Craig's list, and ebay, and his photography and his descriptions of the objects he sells bring him about 25-40% more for the same object. The lighting and the display angle really are that important.

Several of the newest Canon models like the T7i also have Bluetooth which makes connecting to your iPad super easy and are a bit less expensive than the 6D ii.

If you are still using Google a 10D; I still have a perfectly good 10D; then even a jump to a good used 5D III would be light years ahead of what you are using now, but the 6D II would be a major leap forward also; despite what many folks say, mostly non-Canon users, the 6D II is a really, really nice new camera. Boo hoo that it doesn't have 4K video; most folks don't need it anyway, and that's precisely why Canon didn't add it to that model.

We rarely use tripods as the lots vary in size on the table and as we go through the property we often have to leave the table to photograph a large piece, like a sofa or chair. So hand holding is the process unless we have a great number of small items like jewelry, coins, netsuki, etc. I like the idea of connecting to the computer in real time and I think the 6D can do that. And, yes, time is money in this business. Thanks for your thiughts.

The Canon 10D was introduced in 2003. It's time for an updated camera. What about an 80D? I've rented from LensRental.com from time to time. It's a good way to try out cameras and lenses.
