I say this because I showed this bug to a couple of neighbors and all they could say is how ugly the poor thing was. This is the kind of attitude that leads people to kill it. And when they find out it has a painful bite??? FORGET ABOUT IT.

I was trying to convey that. even though the bug is "ugly" and can bite. he is still a better option than using pesticides and should be left alone.

Not all pesticides are your enemies. If farmers couldn't use any pesticides, you might not have much to eat. Pesticides in general get a bad rap.

I didn't say they were MY enemies. They are used way too freely though.

I totally agree. I grew up on a farm and we did fine without pesticides or seeds that have been genetically engineered to withstand Roundup.

Nice one! I've never seen one of these before, it looks like some kind of mechanical beast.

Excellent capture. I'd not like to meet him in person.

Thanks for sharing.

Interestingly enough, studies show that the biggest abusers of pesticides are folks who live in cities and suburban neighborhoods who can't stand a bug in their well-manicured yards and gardens. Farmers use them sparingly because of the high costs involved. A can of spray doesn't cost much to the guy next door, but farmers who must buy in quantities to protect their crops watch their pennies very closely. The farmers always seem to bear the brunt of the blame for overuse, but it turns out that they are seldom the culprits. I'm not intending to step on anyone's toes here; I'm just stating some realities.

I've never seen nor heard of this bug! Good shot, but I sure don't want to run across it's path!

It's an assasin bug called a "Wheel Bug" It eats other bugs. It's beneficial but packs an excruciating bite. Said to be more painful than a gunshot wound. but not as bad as pesticide is.

Yes I have seen these. I find them quite often in my yard. Mostly on one maple tree I have.
