Looking for a decent walk around lens for my Nikon D7100. I would like your opinion on the following lens:
Nikon 18-300mm
Sigma 18-300mm DC Macro OS HSM
Tamron 16-300mm VC PZD

Thank you

I have been using the nikkor 24-120 for quite a few years on D300 and D7100 and a same in a FX on my D800 and D810.
However neither lens walks, I have to tote them everywhere.

Thats also great advice. I had the 18-105 and got the 18-135 gave the 105 to my daughter to go on the 3200 I had passed onto her)

Was getting the 18- 300 and experimented with the Tamron from Adorama. ( if i didn't like it they would let me return it) never did send it back and where I use the 18-105 on a D 50 i put the 16- 300 tamron on my 7200.

I am happy with what the lens produces.

I am shooting a lot of celebrations, events in the city and meetings (state conventions and such) 16 to 300 is all you really need.

One thing to remember with all the zooms. Using the built in flash even in close quarters DONT keep the hood on.

I have the Tammy 16-300. It's ok, has the strengths and weaknesses mentioned. My fav on my a6500 is the 18-105, smaller and sharper. Have fun!

I don't shoot Nikon and I have negative bias to long zoom range. I almost didn't get my 24-105L (FF) because of this. I also have a 17-135 that is sharp. I went Tuesday to Tamron Keep on clicking and was one of the first to shoot the 18-400 for crop. That is a 22.2 zoom it is quite remarkable. It is fast and good at close focusing. Many of my contraries that want native use the Nikon 18-300.

Where are you walking? How much do you want to carry?
I like my Sigma 17-70, however sometimes I mount the 10-18 Canon, sometimes it's a 24 or 40 that gets mounted, depends on situation, no one all purpose lens, Bob.

Where are you walking around (city, woods, etc..) and what are you shooting (buildings, people, plants, etc..)?

Purchase the new Tamron 18-400 and never look back. They have corrected all the issues identified with extreme zoom lenses.

I'm always more partial to Nikon glass but I think an even better option is the 18-140 its lighter weight and gives you enough zoom for almost any situation

I used the Nikon 18-300 with my 7100 as a walk around lens on a short trip to Italy-- very unhappy with the results--- but, then, I am used to using prime on a D810 suggest the 18-200 (nikon) is a better choice-----used that with lots less disappointment on a similar trip

I guess we all have our opinions on what a "decent lens" is. I favor Nikon lenses.
I have no experience with any of the lenses you have mentioned, my favorite walk around lens is the 18-200 VR.

When I had a Nikon D7000 the lens I always had on the Nikon 18-200 zoom, except when in Africa then the Nikon 70-300 helped me get up in the tree where the
Leopard was hiding... but with the 18-200 it seldom wanted another lens for walking around or international traveling. For general all around shooting ya don't need the 300mm reach (the 200mm gets you actual 300mm reach which is enough) and the 70-300 is really heavy.

I am not a Nikon user, so my favorite walk around lens in my full frame is a 24-105 f/4.

I use the Nikon 18-300 paired with a 7100 body.

Pros: fast accurate focus, light wight.
Cons: Not tack sharp at 300 mm. But sharp enough for a walk around.
