do you remember.
if you are over 75, then you may remember some of the good things from the "good ole days"
1. when people weren't allergic to peanuts strawberries, and just about any food you can think of.
2 rugs, matress's, major appliances that actually lasted almost 20 yrs.
3 drugs that didn't have a longer list of bad side effects than the problems they treated.
4 long flights with friendly flight attendents and decent food.and the customer came first.
5 cars that the average Joe could fix with a few directions.
6 water melons that you didn't have to plug a dozen to get a sweet one.
7 big, ripe, juicy, good tasting produce ie. apples, pears, peaches, and tomatos to name a few. now days the only place to get them is the local farmers market.
8 beef, pork, chicken, and turkey that isn't full of growth hormones, or so bland that you have to over season it . the dark meat always had more flavor, not any more.
all to often progress shortchanges us in important areas.
Ain't 75 and yes I remember these good old days
Though I am not 75 still its great to read about these "good ole days"!

I'm only 62, and things still seem pretty screwed-up to me already!

"The Good Old Days" weren't necessarily that good. Yes, the "manufacturers" have been messing with our food, but other products are generally made better and are more durable. The profit motive is behind a lot of the misery in the world.
Drugs DID have lots of side effects back in the day. What changed is that now we tell you about them!
Of the fruit available today (but especially pears), it goes from rock-hard to rotten without ever passing ripe.

I remember all of them and a few others too. I'm 80. On the other hand my father died at 41, my mother at 49 and my brother at 2.5. Had it been today, when afflicted, they would all probably have enjoyed long years of healthy lives. I also long for many facets of "the good old days", but appreciate the improvements too.
Thanks
Mark

Almost everything is "for profit". So where do we the people come in?
But back then you were lucky to make it to 75 and be able to complain about the good ole days.
Oh, and the list of side-effects for prescription drugs advertised on television (why would prescription drugs be advertised on television?) is as long as your arm and ranges from kidney failure to heart failure to death. Who would want to risk taking such drugs?

Maybe change your source. I buy from local farms/local stores who market local products. Sorry to have to tell you this, but for pears, the harder they are the better I like them.
I suspect I'm in a very small minority.
