Per Amazon both lenses are in the $750 category. Think I'll bypass.

OP cited the Sony 18 - 200. The 55 - 210 is their kit telephoto. When I bought the a6000 the store had a special for $125, which was around $100 off.

For me, the + was having wide angle (18mm) available. Comparing identical images taken with each lens showed me no differences I could detect. If both lenses spent a week being tested in a lab, I'm sure they'd find differences. There was also a difference in price. The Sony 55-210 from ebay cost $185, while the Tamron 18-200mm (KEH) was $499.

Bought my Tamron on Amazon for $549, new. The Sony was $7??. That was one of the +'s!! The other plus was the size; the Tamron is smaller and has no lens creep. As far as the quality of the photos, they are the same. For me, the Tamron is the best!

When you get some free time could you elaborate on the +'s and -'s of the two lenses. I have been toying with advancing from the Sony 55-210.

Tamron +'s are: Lighter weight, non-creeping lens, about $200 cheaper, smaller lens, very little difference in picture quality. Sony +'s are: same make as the camera, easier to manual focus. Since I'm not a pro, the cost was a big factor for me. I do like sharp, nice pictures and the Tamron gives me that. I also didn't like how easily the Sony lens would "self creep" when hanging from my shoulder. Good luck with your choice. Don't think you will go wrong with either of these lenses.
