Search "for sale" here on UHH. Craigs List is my favorite otherwise for S.E. New England where I make the transfer for cold cash in my local Dunkin' Donut shop.

Over the years i have succomed to GAS attacks and swore I'd sell my older equipment to help pay for the new purchases...well, I have found that I am much better at buying stuff than selling it. I am wary of Craig's List, Ebay, and Amazon because the equipment is high end and I am afraid of being ripped off by a variety if scams. The other side of the equation is I could take it to a local photo store and get peanuts for the stuff. Has anyone found a way that works for them? If it were only a couple of hundred bucks, that's one thing, but several thousand bucks is another in my situation. Thanks for all thoughtful replies (no, I can't afford to start a museum!)

Ebay is just fine. Get payment up front then ship once fully confirmed the payment is legitimate.

I just listed my Canon 60D with a Tamron 18-270 lens plus a couple of books yesterday on Craig's list and finished the sale today. I set it up for local sales and if I get anyone asking for me to ship things I say no. I required cash only and did the transfer in the parking lot of our local police station. I have never sold a high priced item here on the hog, but would consider it if something doesn't move on Craig's list.

Smart!

It would be funny to see, "Parking for Craig's List," as you enter the parking lot.

Police departments across the country have locations near or in their buildings specifically for these type of transactions, check with your local PD to see if yours does. Many are lighted and also have video cameras, but Amy public place with a lot of people around will work. A lot of people use Walmart.

If you have local photo stores in your area, rather than selling the equipment to them, see if they will negotiate a consignment fee that is workable to you and price your gear accordingly.

Yes ebay's commissions are annoying. But the interest from all over is amazing. I see ton's of hits the minute I list
my gear. And the interface and process is old and sometimes confusing. But they do what they can to insure you get
your money and the buyer gets the goods. I recently sold about 6k in gear. Good stuff. The fees were in the $500
range and I got 60%-70% of purchase price originally. Their were some discounts on commisions.
I was able to upgrade my main mirrorless camera for video to the Sony a7s II which has the stabilizing
4k and amazing low light performance. I have sold camcorders and got good resales. This is not gear crazy
but getting the tools to make a few bucks and enjoy my creative process. Good luck.

My last thought is that ebay with all it's quirks (been around a long time) huge inventory has the best system.
You take shots with your iPhone I like them better then a reg camera. The descriptive for that item is offered to you
by ebay you can edit or go on line pull specs from manufacturer or B&H pretty accurate. Edit and extras in listing.
Usually if you have something good you will see hits in the first few hours. Or maybe minutes. I don't sell internationally.
You may get crazy questions answer them with class. I got with a week auction and a buy now offer also.
I believe in electronics their are a lot of resellers or small retailers buying and selling.
When it sells you must wait for the money to be listed on PayPal. With PayPal buyer can use any credit card.
Ship pack very carefully clean and test gear. You will have to wait a week or less for PayPal to clear your money
for use. Fair enough buyer gets the goods and is happy. In some cases ebay insures some transactions.
I have gotten rave reviews for fielding questions and shipping promptly. Had one annoying purchaser in
NY and I just niced them and set something extra. Why would anybody not like this process.
Good luck.

Why not take good photos of the gear, decide on your price, and list it here? Then move down the list as necessary if it doesn't sell. I suspect you will have a pocket full of money to give to your camera store owner by this weekend....

I have a question regarding payment on this site or any like it. How is payment handled? I have sold numerous items including a $700.00 camera on ebay. Since they only use PayPal the seller is notified when it is OK to ship. So far so good for me. But what about without PayPal? I, and I believe most, sellers are not going to ship anything until they are holding the loot. I have also bought and sold items on other "specialty" auction sites and with them the buyer sends the payment required by seller in advance or uses a credit card if the seller accepts them. Only after the cash is in hand does the item ship. What protections are afforded either party at UHH?

Ditto on that... he'll probably show up in a couple of days. If, that is, he has these responses actually reaching his email in-box.
