A true example of government at work...

A Massachusetts mayor is taking inspiration from a controversial New York City proposal to ban large, sugary beverages – and might even want to take it a step further.

Cambridge Mayor Henrietta Davis unveiled a proposal that would outlaw large-size sodas and other sugary drinks in area restaurants to the City Council on Monday.

She’s also suggesting that city officials consider banning free refills of sugary beverages, which would be a step beyond New York City’s plan.

“Our environment is full of way too many temptations,” Davis said. “This is one temptation that isn’t really necessary.”

The move comes on the heels of a proposal by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg earlier in the month to ban sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces in New York City. That ban would apply at restaurants, food carts and any other establishments that receive letter grades for food service, but it would not apply to grocery stores.

So what else are you doing to help the citizens???

And this for some reason is front page news...go figure.

Should anything be done to stem the health crisis that has seduced us by food industries? Not challenging. Just asking.

That used to be the saying Now it is: "We have the most useless politicians that big money can buy." SCOTUS loved plutocracy so much they did their best to make it permanent.

I think they should create "sin" taxes for these items. I think a nickel per purchase quantity be it cup, can, bottle or refill.

From a political point of view this makes perfect sense. Let's distract peoples attention from societies massive problems like unemployment, drugs, crime, a decaying infrastructure, spending deficits, and a failing education system. "We're going to thin you down with the porker police!" Shakespeare was almost right when he said kill all the lawyer. It should have been kill all the politicians, kill them tonight.

Pretty sure you can't legislate it, but that doesn't mean the crew in DC or YC won't want to. Showing, by the way, that they are totally lacking in common sense. Just sayin'.

Ok I am on my diabetes kick now...it ranks as the 6 largest killer in the US...but is totally, totally controlable...had a guy that worked for me a while ago at a newspaper...had diabetes was 56 years old and could beat the hell out of all the newsroom at once...but he took his meds and insulin...

So why is it the number one cause of disease blindness, amputations etc...

Because we dont pay attention....we expect the government to
