It's very easy,
1. Insert the SD card into your computer.
2. Find the photos on your PC which you wish transfer.
3. Select the photos you wish to move to the SD card.
4. Either copy and past the selection onto the SD card or:
5. Right Click on your selection and click "Send To"
6. Send your selection to the SD card.

Those who cautioned that the camera may not be able to properly read the card or at least the copied files are correct. Some cameras in my experience can do it. But my Sony's cannot. The reason appears to be that there is a "database" on the card, put there by the camera and maintained by the camera. If you put something on the card that the database doesn't "know" about, then the camera can't use it.

When you put a new card in the camera, if the camera tells you it is formatting or preparing (or similar terms) the card, then it seems likely to me that it's doing what I described in the paragraph above.
Those who cautioned that the camera may not be abl... (show quote)

This problem makes me wonder if formatting the card in the camera before transferring the pictures back would make it work better?

Not sure why the OP wants to put the images back on the card, unless it is for storage. There are people who like to keep their memory cards for that, rather than buying an external hard drive.

In Windows 7, insert your memory stick in the USB slot. The computer should recognize the memory stick. If you click on the icon of your computer it will show the drivers on your computer including the memory stick. Open the file or pictures you want to send to the stick, highlight the file or picture with a right click. You should get a list asking what you want to do with the item, including, Send To. Right click send to which will show a list of places including your memory stick, click on the stick and it will be sent to the stick. Check to make sure they loaded and you are set.

as others have said - Why? The SD card is just like any other type of drive. Your computer mat have a SD card slot. If not and usb adaptor/reader can be found for cheap on e-bay. Just copy and paste.

I did that in order to put pictures from my PC to the card and then to my iPad. It doesn't work. Even though they're JPEG files, the iPad could not see them. When those pics are put on the card in thr notmal fashion in the camera, they load just fine to the iPad.

I think you're correct, I just checked and the camera did not see the photo I Cut & Pasted. The computer saw it so it depends what the
purpose of the OP is.

To be able to see the images in-camera, you will need to duplicate the folder structure where the camera looks for them. Easy way to do it is to take a picture with the card in the camera and then put that card into your computer's card reader. Look through the folders on the card and find where the picture you just took is located. Then copy the pictures from your computer to the card in the same location as the one you just took.

I believe that while you can put a file back in the proper folder on the SD card and it should be seen by the camera, if you have opened the file while it was on the computer and updated it, the camera will not display that image. You must not modify the file in any way outside the camera for it to be recognized by the camera. The OP said that he tweaked the image and that's the problem.

I'm not sure if that holds true for every camera, but I know it's the case for some.

I know as long as the file is a JPG or CR2 for Canon cameras, the file is viewable if placed in the correct folder. I have no experience with any other manufacturer. In the event that you update a RAW file on a pc, you can't replace the RAW file on the PC and must save/export it as a JPG , Tiff or other digital graphic file type. If you copy the Raw file back to the card, it will not include the changes you made but you would be able to see the RAW file.

If the edit file was saved/exported as a TIFF or DNG and then copied to the card, I am not sure if Canons (or other manufacturers in general) can read anything but JPG or their native RAW files from the card. Will try it later at home ...

Seems to me that I did that once and the images were not able to be viewed by the camera.

Yes. We are back to "It depends." The camera and card companies tell you that it is best to format the card in the camera that will be using it. There can be compatibility problems.
