The first thing you might need to do is check with the air line that you intend to use and find out what their size limitations are. Of course it depends< only a pun intended as a brand endorsement. The amount of camera equipment you have or intend to take on the trip.
Think Tank has bags that do not have "Expensive cameras and lenses contained inside" One line that comes to mind is the Urban disguise line of their bags.
Many other companies sell bags that are not readily noticed as a camera bag per se, some lines are have prints and designs also

If you decide to wear your camera strapped be sure not to strap it across one shoulder, but across your body from shoulder to hip. There are also camera strap companies that make a more secure strap or a strap that contains a cable inside that provide an extra ounce of security especially from snip and grab camera theives

Good luck have a safe trip, be sure you take plenty of cards and batteries with your camera.

I carried a Longchamps large tote with my camera gear, wallet and phone through Europe and Asia. It is water repellant and I was as concerned with getting caught in the rain as I was with thieves. You want only one bag to carry which fits close to your body and does not scream "camera". Pack large zip lock baggies for your camera body and unattached lenses, as protection against water, dust and other damage. I also want my camera gear stowed under the seat in front of me on the airplane and not in the overhead bins, so a soft, malleable bag is necessary for that. Take luggage locks and lock your suitcase in your hotel if your going out and don't want to lug your gear with you. It's certainly not foolproof, just another layer of deterrent.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a bag to put your camera and equipment in as not to draw attention that expensive equipment is in that bag.

I just got back from China today and I have been in Europe and Brazil, I was told flat out not to take my high end camera to Brazil by a Brazilian my ridge camera was stolen there. My alpha 300 and I have been to Europe and Asia. I did take my backpack style camera bag almost everywhere I went in China. When I did go out without it it was still in my hotel room. And I was in Beijing. I have a tamerac bag. I have found that the more modest the bag is the less it is noticed.

Have fun on your trip

Thanks going to Africa

Have a great trip. My wife and I are going to Africa in Sept with Gate1 Travel. We have traveled with them twice before and also traveled with other tour groups and found this is the safest way to travel. There is always someone watching your stuff. Also you might think about buying trip insurance for medical treatment and for your stuff.

I just returned from Italy -- I appologize -- it's been a month since you posted this question and I'm playing catch-up. Someone here at UHH recommended going to kellymore.com when I posed this question for a bag to take to Italy. BEST purchase I have ever made. The bag I bought looks like a purse, works like a purse, but is lined like a camera bag. My canon T3 and 18 - 200 mm lens fit perfectly with room for a little extra. This was the only bag I carried as it functioned as a purse as well. I got lots of compliments from the ladies on the trip and when I showed them it was a camera/purse bag they were really surprised.

I even told my cousin -- a professional wedding photographer --about my new camera bag, she immediately went on line and bought one!

Good luck. Casser
