Thank You for Your Service Mac, and for you Veterans of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, Thank You. While I didn't surve in the Navy my brother was a Pecker Checker and I spent my time watching from the shore, USAF '59-'62.
While doing my usual web surfing last evening I ran across a video tour of the WW II Battleship USS Iowa, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dW83U4bkC_k&spfreload=1
which was very interesting.
Thanks again for your service

One of my trips through the Panama Canal, I was an engineer on a USNS Merchant Marine supply ship, and a carrier was going the other way. I don't know which one it was, but it just fit. I was standing on the flying bridge on my ship (11,000 tons) and looking up at the underside of the angle deck. Pretty impressive. It was in 1970. My thanks to all those who served.

I reported aboard USS Forrestal (CVA-59)

Nice shot. She was on maneuvers with me in '69. I think it was her maiden voyage after the fire. It was in the Mediterranean for 9 mos. I was on a Tin Can for 4 1/2 months with her.

It was probably one of the WWII carriers, they were in heavy use in Vietnam.

THANKS for your service! Know there are a LOT of people on a carrier, but any chance you knew a Larry Gilbert? One of the seamen lost during the fire. Went to school with him. I joined the crotch, he went to Great Lakes. Both of us ended up goin' to Nam about the same time. Glad ya came thru.
