Yes, today's carriers are much bigger, but at the time it was commissioned it was the largest ship in the world.

I was aboard "IKE" (CVN-69) in the VACAPES operating area when we passed FORRESTAL as she steamed north heading towards her final berth in the Philadelphia bone-yard. It was a cool sight to see the automobiles of the ship's company covering the flight deck to aid the sailors in change of station. Unfortunately, at that time, I was not a photo-enthusiast and had no means of capturing what would have been an interesting photo. Thanks for your service, Shipmate.

Very nice. I believe she was the last carrier that fit in the Panama Canal.
