Got my new camera!

I decided to post here, instead of in my old thread ( http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-42056-1.html ) since I'm still getting advice about how to fix the problem - THAT issue has been resolved.

But I got my new Canon T3i this morning, and am still learning it. I'm surprised how different it is from the XT, but I'm sure I'll catch on in no time. Also, the downloading software for it, specifically the Digital Photo Professional I need to use to convert the RAW to jpg is totally new to me, and so far very confusing! I guess I'll be doing lots of reading tonight when I get home from work!

congrats. the thing about raw converters is they look confusing (for me weather its nikonview or adobe camera raw) but once you open it up and literally play with the buttons and sliders to see what they do, it makes sense. go shoot some well exposed but throwaway shots. use them to play with raw converter. If you screw up you haven't wasted a good photo.

Thanks.

Yeah, 6 years of using the same program tends to make one a little rusty.... but it's true: old dogs CAN learn new tricks, so I hope to learn it soon - when I can find some free time.

Just curious as to why you purchased the t3i and not the t4i which just came out.the t4i has a canon 5 digic processor. Also why not the 60d. The t3i is rated very highly by many reviewers in the budget area. Did you get a good buy and from whom?

As it was, the T3i barely fit my budget. I purchased the body only from B&H.

The t3i was a good choice! I"m inkling to upgrade my sx40 which i like very much,(have had for 6 months)to a dslr, but it has its limitations in aperture settings etc but will hold on and possibly wait for the t3i to go down in price. Best of luck with your new camera and please send some images to the hedgehoggers!
