It all depends on how much you have a.ready invested in lenses.
Both cameras are winners!

I took your advice and I'm glad I did. I went shopping at the local COSTCO and tried both cameras.

The grip and controls on the Canon 80 D felt much better to me, especially the shutter release. The first joint of the index finger on my right hand is missing due to an accident when I was a young child. The ergonomics of the Canon 80 D are much better for my situation.

COSTCO had the 80 D with two kit lenses sale priced at $1299.00. I bought it on the spot. Since I purchased the camera with my COSTCO Visa Card they extended the warranty to four years.

Thanks to all of you for your comments and advice. I am very happy with my purchase.

You won't regret the 80D. I've had one for about 6 months and am well pleased with it.

Agreed, go handle both and see which one feels the best in your hands. I got my D7200 because the ergonomics felt better to me than the (at the time) 70D. The 80D hadn't come out yet. But in the end, both are good cameras and you won't regret either one. By the way, where in Idaho are you? We lived in Meridian for 10 years before moving back to Alaska. Loved Idaho, and still do.

Hello Wingpilot, we have relatives in Wasilla, AK (Crowders, Carolyn & Ryan). Have never been there so I don't know how big it is, but when I saw you are from Wasilla it just stood out! And good choice on the D7200, I have one as well and I love it!

You can use any brand camera with a canon printer, years ago I pulled a fast one I got a new canon PIXMA pro 900 MK ii for around 150$, the price of the ink set, ordered it from B&H at the end of the model run. I still use it and have printed a lot of prints from 4 x 6 to 13 x 19 without any problems.

I was about to buy the Canon 80 D, but wondering if I should consider the Nikon 7200. They are similar in many ways, both are good cameras. I'd like your feedback on which one you would buy and why.

I like to take travel photos, sports photos, grand children, landscapes and wildlife.

80D has the dual pixel AF system that is not available to the 7200. That is big for live view and video shooting as things will stay in focus much better as they move around.
The 80D will also use every EF lens ever made with no restrictions at all and work 100% as intended. This makes selecting used lenses much easier as you do not have to worry ever about compatibility especially as you grow into the system.
I have Canon now have used both and owned both.
I also like the feel and menu system of Canon and the ability to have multiple presets that are instantly available with a quick turn of the top dial. Comes in real handy going from B&W, super fast action to landscape. In other words taking a landscape and a bird or rabbit jump out and you are instantly shooting your personal preset for speed in an instant.
Happy researching.

I just shot a video - - a historical narrative of my participation in the early development of GPS
I sat in front of my 80D, and without the articulating screen, I'd have been unable to see where I was positioned in the frame.
I have a 7D and got the 80D as an upgrade. I think you'll be VERY happy with the 80D !!

I have a friend who owns a Canon 80D (I own the 70D). He constantly laments the quality of his images when compared to those coming from my D7200, so much so that even as a long time Canon fan, he is seriously considering switching to Nikon.

You have a friend?

He lied about having a friend and he also lied about the whole 80D vs 7200 thing.
