I haven't had any problems buying things from China. And yes, they do like positive feedback. Sometimes when I buy from Amazon, the item gets shipped from China. That can take a month, or it could arrive in a week or so. Given the choice, I would prefer a seller from this country for speed and ease of discussion, if necessary.

Since they are sending a refund, and you don't have to return the product, I would leave them a positive feedback.

Jerry - I always look at the shipping time on Amazon - sometimes it is not very clear that something will ship from China - as so many things are these days. Several times I have cancelled orders when I received an email confirmation of my order saying it should arrive in six weeks!

I do buy things from China - I have purchased several small but very powerful lasers (that are not available in the US) from China - and they take 3-4 weeks to get here but always have. They are fun to play with but you have to be very careful, and it is illegal to shine them at an airplane or a law enforcement officer - which of course might be a good way to get shot if they thought you were sighting in on them.... Interestingly, these lasers are illegal to sell in the US but not illegal to own. They are useful in pointing out wildlife or stars to other people.

If you want to buy from China, there is a website called JD.com. Second only to Alibaba. They have a solid reputation of not selling any fake products (unlike Alibaba). Tightly controlled and managed business. You can do a search in the search section by typing in English. The site can be used in Chrome - which will translate from Chinese to English.

I typed in JD.com, and could not get it to display in English? How do get it to do that, and what is the conversion rate into USD.

Thanks for the help.

David

I recently purchased two "corn" LED light bulbs from China. They arrived and one worked and the other didn't. I wrote to the company asking for a refund, not a replacement, The reply I got was:

"Hi there,
thank you for contact with us, we are so sorry to hear that, could you please take picture for us, we must will solve well for you after checked your picture, hope you can understand that,
looking forward to your reply
best regards"

My reply to that was:

"Yes, of course I could send you a photo but how are you going to know from a photo is the bulb is working or not? The only way would be able to send you a video and that I am not able to do."

To which I got:

"hi there,
thank you for your reply, that's ok, we will refund 3.49 GBP back to you in 24 hours, you can check your paypal account later,
and could you please do NOT leave us any negative/neutral feedback or low detailed seller rating, this is serious bad for our account,
we really feel very sorry to you,
hope you can understand that.
sorry again for the inconvenience.
best regards"

I have decided to to leave any feedback at all.

No problem then, you couldn't ask for a better response.

The concern over bad feedback is legitimate. The percentage that eBay charges a seller is dependent on their feedback rating. Even a tiny bit of negative feedback can drastically effect the charges the seller has to pay eBay on all their sales. The seller, whether foreign or domestic, has a tremendous financial interest in having only satisfied customers. Usually an email that simply states "i am waiting to leave appropriate feedback until this issue is resolved" will get immediate results. In your case, I think you received acceptable service and that a good feedback rating is justified.

My biggest problem ordering from China is the time it takes for delivery. Especially if they pay the postage. If they pay the postage, they go for the cheapest way. That means the item goes into a shipping container and it doesn't get shipped until it is full. It may take a while to fill the container, then you have to add the actual shipping time. I have usually been satisfied with the product and service otherwise. Same goes for things from Thailand, Taiwan, and the area of Indonesia. Very slow shipping.

Ah, so that is what is happening...! Makes perfect sense now.

I find that Chinese sellers on Ebay are very customer friendly. My "worst" situation was when I ordered two 44" shoot through umbrellas for a ridiculously low price. They sent me two 36" umbrellas. When I contacted them they apologized and sent me the two 44" umbrellas and told me to keep the 36 inchers because of the inconvenience.

Another time I ordered flashes, one of which died the first time I used it. After contacting them, they again apologized, e-mailed me a postage paid label and promised to send two new flashes (again for my inconvenience) as soon as they received the dead flash.

The sellers, in your case, did everything you wanted. In my mind that merits a good review.

I've bought a lot of inexpensive tools and electronic parts like that and have only had one weird experience out of many good ones. Instead of a set of small drill bits they sent me a large flag of Israel! They refunded my money and apologized because they didn't have the drill bits anymore.

I have always had good luck buying from China on eBay. I recently purchased a $ 4200 lens. I'm delighted with it. I use PayPal because I think that gives me more options.

If I got a response 1/10 th as fast from an online company, You bet I'd leave a positive feedback and would likely buy from them again. Timely and correct service should be respected, regardless of where they do business.

I buy online a lot and always get a response. I can even read it without an English translator. I have not yet had a bad experience. I try to buy American, so that jobs will stay here. If the product has no USA manufacturer, I at least try to buy from a USA company. Most third world prices are so low because they pay wages below the poverty level in their country. They ignore pollution and safety regulations. It is like buying from an American company in the early 1900's. Buy American the job you save may be your own.

I usually buy American IF there is a choice. Of course in photography 99% of the gear is imported any way. Today a brand name isn't gonna be a clue. A Toyota Avalon has a higher US made content than a Chevy Cruze, 2 of my past Buicks were Imports (Canadian built), And good luck finding a Sony anything actually made in Japan!

I'm not sure that I understand your problem. You received faulty goods, you requested a refund rather than a replacement, which you got. The person you were dealing with was probably administrative staff, not a member of technical staff. Indeed it would be unlikely that the company would have any technical staff as such, as they are a shop at the end of the day. It cannot be a language problem, as their English would appear to be equal to your own. However if that is the issue, then perhaps you should use Mandarin. They have done all that could be expected of them, so why would you not leave positive feedback, assuming that is what you were saying.

The OP implied that there was a problem by stating he wasn't giving a positive feedback even though the seller did the right thing.

I buy things from China via Ebay all the time, never had a problem, usually stuff is so cheap it's not worth hasseling with them; batteries and bulbs don't seem to last as long as USA products but buying them by the dozen for only a few bucks seems to work for the long run!
