I recently purchased two "corn" LED light bulbs from China. They arrived and one worked and the other didn't. I wrote to the company asking for a refund, not a replacement, The reply I got was:

"Hi there,
thank you for contact with us, we are so sorry to hear that, could you please take picture for us, we must will solve well for you after checked your picture, hope you can understand that,
looking forward to your reply
best regards"

My reply to that was:

"Yes, of course I could send you a photo but how are you going to know from a photo is the bulb is working or not? The only way would be able to send you a video and that I am not able to do."

To which I got:

"hi there,
thank you for your reply, that's ok, we will refund 3.49 GBP back to you in 24 hours, you can check your paypal account later,
and could you please do NOT leave us any negative/neutral feedback or low detailed seller rating, this is serious bad for our account,
we really feel very sorry to you,
hope you can understand that.
sorry again for the inconvenience.
best regards"

I have decided to to leave any feedback at all.

I haven't had any problems buying things from China. And yes, they do like positive feedback. Sometimes when I buy from Amazon, the item gets shipped from China. That can take a month, or it could arrive in a week or so. Given the choice, I would prefer a seller from this country for speed and ease of discussion, if necessary.

Since they are sending a refund, and you don't have to return the product, I would leave them a positive feedback.

what did they cost you?
was it a full refund ?
If yes - than I think the reply you received was better than many companies in the US or Europe .

I'm not sure that I understand your problem. You received faulty goods, you requested a refund rather than a replacement, which you got. The person you were dealing with was probably administrative staff, not a member of technical staff. Indeed it would be unlikely that the company would have any technical staff as such, as they are a shop at the end of the day. It cannot be a language problem, as their English would appear to be equal to your own. However if that is the issue, then perhaps you should use Mandarin. They have done all that could be expected of them, so why would you not leave positive feedback, assuming that is what you were saying.

I ordered a small item on ebay a few months ago. After ordering it I realised that the seller was based in China (My mistake). Anyhow appox. two weeks later the seller contacted me to confirm if I was happy with their product. I informed them that it still hadn't arrived. They apologized and said they would send another one. Which arrived along with the original order approx. ten days later.
They too asked for me not to leave a negative feedback. Pretty much word for word as per yours.
In truth, apart from the delay between ordering and receipt I was impressed with the service and amused about the request not to give negative feedback.
I left a positive one.

They have done more than most overseas companies would.
I fail to see what more you could have expected ?

As with small firms in the U.S., your experience may vary.

Often the prices are so low with items from China on eBay that it is worth taking a chance, at least on low-priced items. More often than not you will get a decent quality product at an exceptionally low price. Occasionally you do get burned but on balance that seems worth the risk.

However for a $800 lens you really don't want to get burned (unless that seems like pocket change to you). Then again eBay and PayPal will give you some worthwhile protection for more expensive items.

If you want to buy from China, there is a website called JD.com. Second only to Alibaba. They have a solid reputation of not selling any fake products (unlike Alibaba). Tightly controlled and managed business. You can do a search in the search section by typing in English. The site can be used in Chrome - which will translate from Chinese to English.

I bought some camera bag dividers from China. They took so long to arrive, I had forgotten about them by the time they arrived. On the other hand, anything I've bought from Hong Kong arrived as fast or faster than anything from Amazon.

If I got a response 1/10 th as fast from an online company, You bet I'd leave a positive feedback and would likely buy from them again. Timely and correct service should be respected, regardless of where they do business.

I have made probably 50 orders on eBay for Chinese products and very rarely had a problem. The few problems I had were always quickly rectified.

My biggest problem ordering from China is the time it takes for delivery. Especially if they pay the postage. If they pay the postage, they go for the cheapest way. That means the item goes into a shipping container and it doesn't get shipped until it is full. It may take a while to fill the container, then you have to add the actual shipping time. I have usually been satisfied with the product and service otherwise. Same goes for things from Thailand, Taiwan, and the area of Indonesia. Very slow shipping.
