Thank you all for pointing out how, after a few sincere people have offered valid advice, a thread like this can turn to a mud-slinging contest filled "with the best intentions" and completely off-topic!

You are not kidding! There's a bunch/flock/colony of nut-cases out there who would love to jump on a chance to attack a sane/intelligent opinion. That is, unfortunately, too bad for us as a photography-taking group, but also unfortunate for some other people....especially the ones that just found our site and have to read a diatribe such as just went on. I believe that as a whole, cognitive group we can ( and already have ) helped a BOAT-LOAD of aspiring photo-nuts. Bill...I do not believe this thread is worth the time to continue on. I am signing off, and just going to say...good luck to ALL! 8-)

So you have a Narcissistic personality? You clearly feel that everyone who does not agree with your point of view is a nut case? Belonging to a flock? Again what an arrogant person you are. I find that to often we have a group of men who can not stand that a women has a point of view because they are insecure. Are you hiding something behind your words?

May I suggest some therapy and Viagra? It will help with your NPD, not to mention your other things.

Who the hell was that reply directed toward and why. If it was me, what did I do to you?

You know, with multi-level quotations in replies, it's easy to get confused, something I do very easily. Sorry I jumped so quickly.

I have my first shoot coming up in which I'll be photographing African American friends of mine. Any tips? I have a Canon t1i and a couple of prime canon lenses (70-200 and 35mm fixed).

Thanks in advance,
Betsy

Betsy, It can be difficult to get your shots correctly exposed. I suggest using settings that are alittle on the bright side, learn how to use fill flash and your flash compensation, take your shots with exposer comp. set to 2/3 steps. I have a nephew by marriage who is as dark skinned as you can get and in a lot of pictures he comes out all teeth and eyes. I try to photograph him as close as I can and in as good as light as I can manage.
