Right--It just won't meter? My first Nikon was an F3-HP. Loved that camera.
Boris--
It's how they achieve the higher frame rate, and the greater dynamic range. Lrger sensors means less noise, or so I'm told. Less pixels means faster processing.

I saw today in Facebook that Nikon released its new D7500 ($1247, body only). The camera has many of the features of the D500 and Nikon has high hopes for it as an improved version of the D7200. Nikon may have many more surprises this year, the 100th Anniversary of the company. They have also opened an exhibition at the Shinagawa/Tokyo headquarters, titled "Prototype Cameras-Developer's Memories" (April 4-July 1, 2017) in which they show 40 rare prototypes from the 1940's to the 1980's some of which never reached production. I wonder if anyone in our group has already handled the D7500.

In some significant respects its a dumbed down version of the D7200. Given the name of this new offering (skipping D7300 and D7400) and its similarity to the D500 in several respects it should be referred to as a D500 Lite. The most positive thing I can think of is that there will be plenty of great D7200 bodies for sale on the used market.

The D7500 has a 20MP sensor, while the D5300 has a 24MP sensor. Can anyone explain why this is, is it me being ignorant or is there some other reason for the 20MP one?
Its probably the result of them wanting to raise the FPS to 8. The sensor is apparently the same or similar to the one in the D500.

Because the D5300 is less expensive. Don't you see Nikon most expensive D5 also has 20MP?

It also meter but in manual mode and with center weighted and spot only. No A mode and no matrix.

I just bought the F3-HP. In fact, I have it with me at work now. So far, I love it.

Good comparison of D500 and D7500 on DPReview, with pictures.
This made it clear to me that the D7500 really sucks. Compare the metering patterns - the D7500 is half the camera of the D500 and not as good as the D7200 for reflective photography.
Maybe Nikon saved the intermediate numbers (D7300, D7400) for a real upgrade!

Matt Granger did a preview, comparing it to the D7200 and the D500. Very interesting.

Wow, much to ponder here. I have two D7100's and two D5100's and HAD a D750 for about 9 months when it was recently stolen at a school event I was shooting so I've been pondering whether to get another D750 (IF I can find another one at the $1400 price I bought my first refurbished at). I've also been looking at the D500 and now here's the D7500. Based on the youtube video shared above I probably don't want the D7500 because I'm really not interested in a "dumbed down" version as he puts it. I should probably save my pennies a little longer and either get another D750 or the D500. I love action, be it birds in flight, sports or my grandson, so I'm probably leaning towards the D500. Thanks for everyone's input. As soon as Nikon sent me the notice I came straight here to search for discussion of the D7500.
