I saw today in Facebook that Nikon released its new D7500 ($1247, body only). The camera has many of the features of the D500 and Nikon has high hopes for it as an improved version of the D7200. Nikon may have many more surprises this year, the 100th Anniversary of the company. They have also opened an exhibition at the Shinagawa/Tokyo headquarters, titled "Prototype Cameras-Developer's Memories" (April 4-July 1, 2017) in which they show 40 rare prototypes from the 1940's to the 1980's some of which never reached production. I wonder if anyone in our group has already handled the D7500.

Its a misguided waste of money for many reasons. No Air tab, 1 card slot, less battery performance and on, but its fast, lol

They haven't released the D7500 yet, only announced it. It won't be released until June or July.

Would I have paid $750 more for the D500 if this was available last year? We'll never know.

Nikon in Japan will offer a SPECIAL VERSION of the holy trinity. In a beautiful box with the lenses having special markings. YEA. Also a 100th marked camera.

NO! I would not for me to many cons
Nikon D7500 – Concerns And Deal Breakers

Sadly, there are a couple concerns that we need to mention and these will no doubt save some readers $1250.

First, they have eliminated the AI index ring on the lens mount. That means if you enjoyed hanging legacy glass off your D7xxx series camera (think manual focus Nikon glass), then, well, you can’t do that anymore if you get this camera. For most folks, this is a non-issue, but I thought it was prudent to mention it.

The next omission will be of greater concern – it appears there is no option for a vertical grip. This is a huge departure from every camera in the D7xxx series and a serious step back in my opinion.

Next, we have storage media, and this can be a deal breaker for some. In the D7200, we had two SD card slots, so you could use the extra for backup or overflow. Well, it seems the D7500’s SD card area has become a bit anorexic and now supports only a single, lonely little card. If you depend on a second SD card to act as backup / overflow, then this is a painful loss. However, the good news is you can probably get a good deal on a used D7200 right now…

The sting of that single SD card could have been less painful had they at least gone UHS-II, but the cards slot is still chugging along at UHS-I speeds. Although, with a 50 frame buffer, it probably won’t come into play too much anyway.

As a final kick in the pants, your battery will die 160 frame sooner than it did on the D7200. The D7500 is good for 950 shots per charge compared to the D7200’s 1,110 – although I’ll bet real world impact is minimal.

If you can somehow afford these special lenses, get them! You can be sure the value will rise considerably as time passes.

I wonder if the stated battery life is real or an artifact of using the touch screen?

Although it doesn't have the AI tab it will meter with AI lenses but only in M and no matrix.

But how do you change aperture? Will it be settable from the camera body?

Good points, mborn. Concerns, yes, but for me, no deal breakers here.

The D7500 has a 20MP sensor, while the D5300 has a 24MP sensor. Can anyone explain why this is, is it me being ignorant or is there some other reason for the 20MP one?
