How do you mark your accessories for ID.

I use a yellow paint pen and put a dot of yellow on my items. Same procedure as many have mentioned. My wife and I both drive Toyota cars with keyless entry so we both have key fobs. Mine has a yellow dot on it, on each side, so no one grabs the wrong one and has to walk back into the hose and try and find the correct one or the person walking around with the correct one in his/her pocket.
Some fabulous ideas here, thanks everyone. I think it got many thinking it is a good idea to put a personal identifier on our accessories, etc.
Look at the photos on the card. If they're out of focus, the camera is the other guy's gear!
Similar to the golf gear labels mentioned, I use printed labels from
https://idmystuff.com/They have labels that are wide and thin - perfect for lenses and other sizes in an assortment pack to take care of a variety of camera equipment.
Do NOT ever put your social security number on things like this. You never know whose hands it may fall into!

I love label makers. For some reason, I have three. (I also love duplicates.) In a situation as you describe, I would use a label maker to mark my gear. You can peel them off later, if necessary.
Jerry do you label your label makers as well? I love the one label maker my wife has. I have lost target staplers at the gun range because they were not marked in the past.

i mark most of my stuff like that with a dymo labeler with name, international phone number. and email if room. And it has worked with someone who picked up a charger by mistake, and once when I left something in a cafe. Bottom line: if someone wants to steal it nothing you do will prevent it, but for honest people it worked for me.
Mark with tape, easy to apply and easy to remove and easy to identify.

I use a fine point permanent silver sharpie to mark my accessories. I also put the dates that I got the batteries on them.
I've done this for years. With a little effort, water, and a rag you can wipe the Sharpie off when you are ready to sell your gear.
Some nail polishes wipe off easily. Some are not waterproof. Remember all nail polish are intended not to last and are easily removed. Common bleach will remove a heavy layer as will many Petroleum based products.
