That's what I have been doing- but for birds I missed the convenience of shutter priority in changing light conditions.

Suntouched wanted to put the camera into shutter preferred autoexposure mode so she could set a specific fixed shutter speed while retaining autoexposure by allowing the camera to set the aperture.

I know this is a simplistic inquiry but I have not been able to figure it out. Sure I will feel simple when someone supplies the answer but here goes :)

In following the manual- and various Internet sites: (Re Setting the Camera in Shutter Priority Mode)

I have been unable to set shutter priority mode with a zoom lens that does not have aperture settings (A) on the lens. When I dial in the speed the camera bypasses shutter priority mode and goes straight to manual mode. I am specifically referencing the 50-230 mm lens.

With a lens that has aperture settings on the lens putting aperture in A (on the lens) allows me to then dial in shutter speed via button on the camera and remain in shutter priority mode- referencing the 23 mm f2 lens

The manual only illustrates lenses with the aperture markings- not all Fuji lenses have that.

Hope that is clear- Thanks for your help.
I know this is a simplistic inquiry but I have not... (show quote)

My xt-2 does not do that with my 50 - 230. Here is a photo taken with flash in shutter priority (250) with an xt-2, The screen info said it was S and exposed the photo normally.

Is your lens the OIS II version or the older one? Mine is the newer one.

When set at other than flash sync it does switch to manual with that older lens. but you still have that lovely little meter just like the old FM so you just twirl the ISO dial to expose - just there under your left finger. Or get the lens with the auto aperture switch.

Thanks for your comments although issue was resolved a couple of responses ago via Harry B. He gave an explanation of how to get the camera to pop into shutter priority mode with a lens without an aperture ring. So now I know.

Mine does not have an ois II designation, so I guess it is the older version. Without flash it guess it is inconvenient. But the IOS dial does the job pretty well. otherwise you need to get the 55 -200

Yes, it does switch from M to S as you rotate the dial and exposes properly. Fuji did cover all the bases - and pretty easily too!
