That's a good all round lens , but it depends what your shooting , I have a 70-300VR , but it's not enough for the Eagles around here , even
If your close to the fir tree there sitting ,most are so tall that you can't fill the frame , so it's either get d800 D and crop , or get the new
200-500 mm VR ,I'm working on the 200-500 mm, so. 450 mm to 750mm , on my dx would do the trick .

Maybe be you could for go the d7100 and get the Nikon 200-500mm vr instead , that is what I may do as I'm using two D90 now , but it will be a couple years before I get a refurbished D500 , as I still can do OK with the d90 , but the D500 would be my last camera tell it wares out

If you were pleased with the performance of the 18-200 on your D90; keep it, and use it on the 7100. if not, consider another lens. The 18-200 is a very good lens.

I would agree with that, word for word.

I found the 18-200 a bit soft in comparison to other lens I have. It depends on what you shoot I think but I would say it is a good travel lens.

it's a nice econo- lens, capable of good images. you didn't specify if you wanted a longer lens or one with better I.Q.

Many feel that is one of the best Nikon zooms ever produced. The first run of those lenses were produced in Japan. Yours will say that on the lens if it is one of those. The first version had a lens creep problem that they solved when they put a lock on the second version, the VRII. Both these lenses are very sharp and I still use mine for general carry around shoot everything lens. Enjoy. If it were me, I would get a 35mm 1.8 G AF-S DX that can be had for under $200.00. It is also one of the sharpest fixed aperture lens Nikon has ever produced. That way you would have a faster lens to use if you ever needed it for low light. Good luck and keep on shooting until the end.

I would keep the lens and not look to "replace" it.
I think it would be best to add on to the kit with the Tokina 11-16 for wide angle shots and/or a Nikon 300mm for wildlife.
The 35mm 1.8 is nice if you want a low light lens.

I'd echo what most others are saying; the 18-200 is an excellent value. I still have my D90 but it's put away. I use two D7000's and love them dearly. The 18-200 is always attached to one of them and I can't imagine the D7100 wouldn't be a great fit as well. Good luck with your choices!

That will be fine, since they are both crop bodies.

Actually on a crop body the Nikon 200 500 becomes a 300 750 . I have mine on a Nikon D500 . My advice to anybody thinking about this lens , just buy it . I'm quite picky but it really is a way better lens than its price point . Check out my website , Eagles gallery if in doubt !

The 18-200 lens seldom comes off my camera. It is my walk around lens. Love it.

I have eleven lenses. I pick the Len fr the project but as a walk-around I always use my 18-200.

Agreed . I have a lot of newer bodies than the d90 but I like my old d90 on the 18 200 as a walk around and the d500 with 200 500 as my long distance action shooter !
