How serious can a camera with the name Rebel be ?
In the UK it's the Canon EOS 650D - sounds much more serious!

why switch systems? Just wait a bit. Nikon is NOT done announcing new dslrs yet.
I understand Nikon will be comming out with an entry level full frame this summer...is it the D600?

Dang MT. Are we supposed to have a rationale for all our camera purchases?
Kinds takes the fun out of it doesn't it?
I thought that if you spend enough on whatever new stuff is offered, sooner or later you must end up with the perfect camera, lens and accessory system.
It sure seems that way at times when advising folks.

MT just doesn't understand that the whole point is to get new stuff. The thrill of seeing that UPS truck, and hoping he'll stop at your house. Seeing him walk up the driveway, taking way too long. Checking the label to make sure it isn't you're wife's new cookbook. Opening the box and removing the new goodie. Excuse me - I've got to see what's available on Amazon.
Seems like this forum is riddled with some Nikon camera snobs. (I mean that in the nicest way:-) Interesting, considering Canon has a much larger share of the market.

Remarks like this will get you taken off of Cannon's and Nikon's Christmas card list and the folks down out marketing don't have any love for you either. LMAO!!!!!!!!

I shouldn't be giving this secret away, but I will. When you buy a Nikon camera, you get a little booklet explaining camera courtesy. It cautions us not to act superior around non-Nikon owners because they already feel bad enough for having made the wrong choice. Bragging about our cameras is just rubbing salt in the wound. As in all things, quantity does not equate with quality.
I enjoy your subtle humor! I wonder why Nikon is currently flooding the TV with commercials? Maybe sales are lagging:-(

Nikon wants to make sure that new camera buyers get a Nikon, so they don't get an inferior brand (anything but Nikon) and leave photography forever. Besides, advertising is a good tax deduction. :D
I have gone up the line with Canon from the 10 D, 20 D, 30, 40, 50, 60, 7 D and now I have found my love the 5 D Mark II. Have gotten some good pictures with all of them, but the 5 D for ease of use far out reaches the others. It really stretched my budget, but I got a used one. I have read that the high end DSL's are good for 300,000 actuations. I know Canon is going to continue making new improved ones, they have to in order to stay in business. Bee

I have little experience of either Canon or Nikon but it seems to me that the main thing the T4i brings to the table is the hybrid autofocus in Video mode. This is an area where Canon had to improve but it is still a far cry from the performance of Sony's video focus.
But to switch systems for a 1fps advantage seems like folly to me and 5fps anyway looks a bit meagre when compared to the 12fps offered by Sony for less money.

Joseph Stalin did say "Quantity Has a Quality All Its Own"
