I have just recently come to realize that an image on a crop sensor camera is no better than the same image on an FX camera, cropped on the computer. But I'm not sure if that's true for a TC, which actually enlarges the image before it gets to the sensor. Otherwise there would be no point to anyone ever using a TC.

The crop would be the same regardless of whether it happened in camera or in Photoshop, so the results would also be the same as described in the article.

if the tc I compatable with that lens then by all means use it. the 70-400mm has a 4.8 out of 5.0 rating. so there are no flaws to magnify. I have 4 aps-c and 1 fx sony cmeras.i don't hesitate to use that combo on all of them.

Is the Sony 1.4TC compatible with the 20-400mm lens? Teleconverters work best on prime lenses. If you haven't bought the 70-400mm lens yet, you might want to consider renting a Sigma 150-600mm Sport lens with the Canon mount and the Sigma Canon-Sony adapter.

I think this is probably the better way to go rather than to fool around with the teleconverters. Tamron also has a 150-600. Do you know how they compare?
