Honestly, if buying a Canon I don't see much wrong with buying grey market. Canon will still repair them at a cost of a normal out of warranty repair. Nikon won't. Also, of all the Canon products I've owned, only 1 of them needed warranty repair. It was a Canon 7D. I've had a T2i, 7D, 5D III, 5D IV, 1D IV and now a 7D Mark II. I don't know if I'd buy a grey market body or not, but my common sense tells me that it probably isn't that bad an idea if the savings is great.

Thanks. I read all the comments and ordered the body. Comes today, I'll let you know.

If it comes today then you ordered it before anyone responded to your post. The question then becomes if you already bought it why post the question? Were you looking for confirmation of your decision? Or was it you had second thoughts AFTER you ordered it? A response is really not necessary as we all know what your decision was.

I ordered it yesterday morning about 0800. Shipped it by UPS at 1900, arrived at a local distribution center @ 0600. In a truck at 0700. I am about 2 hours from the store. Thanks for your comment, very helpful.

Social security raise? A few bucks that is overshadowed by the cost of living increase that the government says doesn't exist for items that definitely cost you more in your every day expenses. Bah, humbug!

Thanks. I did some research on Square Deals that it was all positive.

I have a question about Square trade. Is this something that the seller offers at the time of purchase or is it something that you have to pursue on your own with Square trade?
Thanks... because I have wondered the same thing about graymarket purchase plus the square trade policy

I purchased the Square Trade warranty when I purchased the camera body. They send you emails that allow you to go to their site and make claims, etc. I did some research and no one had anything bad to say about them. Good luck.

H Mike,
One other idea. It would be my choice. I'd cough up a few more bucks and purchase a Canon USA refurbished model.
http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/eos-7d-mark-ii-body-refurbished 1 Yr. Warranty.
Good luck in making your decision. It's a great camera!!

am considering buying a Canon 7D Mark II from this outfit on Ebay. I know it will be a "gray" item. My question is, has anyone had any issues with any "gray" camera bodies? I have had a Canon 24-105L Lens for years and it is fine. I would also buy a Square Deal warranty. Thanks.[/quote]

Thanks for the tip Mark: The Canon Refurbished site was the first place I looked. When I checked they were out of stock. All my camera stuff is Canon refurbished. We'll see how it goes.

This thread was all about Canon, admittedly, but the issue of buying grey market Nikon, should one desire to do so, is that Nikon not only refuses to fix grey market but has cut off parts supply to independent repair places and has hence choked off, or is choking off, one's ability to get repairs done at any price, or so I've read. So, buying grey market Nikon would then seem to be a simple bet that a purchased camera will never want repairing.

Seems to be a steep learning curve (again) but your new Canon will be very good at shooting fast things like birds and sports! Careful with these card slots, I seen one with bent pins and was useless, thanks that there was another slot -- and it was selling at $700 plus. Also if you do video you should enjoy your new camera!

Received my 7D Mark II Camera. Everything was there except the warranty card, as expected. Performed fine in my preliminary tests. Seems like a good seller and saved some money to boot.
