Hi PeggySue...It was very easy..I just did mine for the first time and had no problems. They walk you right through it. Good luck!

Thank you Jim Bob,
The instructions look a bit daunting, having to save settings to a memory card and then having to reset alot of settings in the camera. I have never done a firmware update before and these type of things seem to always cause my heart a bit of a jump!

Thank you Pixelpixie! I will try this tonight when I get home. I guess I just needed some moral support. The camera card that you use for copying the update, it can be re-formatted and used in the camera after you have completed the firmware update, is that correct, or do I need a dedicated card to use just for firmware updates? Can you tell I am nervous about this?

It seems a daunting task ... until you actually do it. Use whatever card you usually have in your camera. Get any pictures you want to keep off of it and into your computer. Format the card in camera. Take card out and put into computer and download update and then unpack the new update and move it to the card. (instructions are on the Nikon website for this). Once you have the file on the card remove it from your computer and put it back in your camera. Go to Firmware Version in the Setup menu and then click on update.

I just did two updates. Firmware and Distortion Control Data updates. Did them one at a time formatting the card each time.

Nikon has a firmware update I found in my wanderings.

My D7200 has an update that I got and installed making my camera now C101 to C102

Thanks Sarge. I had a couple to do.

I usually get a pop-up on my screen from the "Nikon Message Center" whenever a registered camera needs an update. I don't know if it comes out right away, but I got nothing on the ones today.

Thank you truckster, you made it sound a little less daunting! I will do both updates this evening, was not sure about the distortion control data update, but will be brave and do that as well!

Well, I did the update, big mistake, it has messed up my playback pictures, just wants to show me the pictures in slot 2. Now if I want to see current pictures I have to wade through All the pictures & when I take a picture and delete it instead of it going back to the last picture on the card it goes all the way back to the first picture I took on that card, from 2015. I am so bummed right now. I feel like I have screwed up my camera for something I didn't need to do. No more firmware updates for me!
