Mark....Ka2azman's situation was that the ball had moved as the alligator chased him, so I considered that the alligator was no longer a concern. You're right, though, about taking a free drop with no penalty stroke. It's been ten years since I've played. Thanks.

Had a similar situation with a foursome I was in only not a gator but a copperhead snake.

It was a concern only if the alligator caught him!! (LOL) No penalty if he did not.

Back when I belonged to a club and we had pretty serious monthly tournaments, I always wondered what we'd do if one of the members dropped dead in the middle of a fairway. Just what kind of hazard would he be considered?

I think that would be considered a loose impediment.

Or outside influence if it moves the ball and leaves. Just try moving that loose impediment!!! I'm with Mark's interpretation about taking a drop.

Speaking of which.....A number of years ago, Mayor Kirk of Dallas had one of the municipal golf courses upgraded in an attempt to compete with country clubs and high end private clubs for corporate gigs. About 5 million dollars was spent on design and implementation, but it all fizzled. At the end of the round, the clubhouse still offered the same old sodas, grilled cheese and chips, not exactly what the high rollers expected at the 19th hole.
