Having lost one of ours to cancer, I know your pain. Such a horrible disease.

All dogs go to Heaven.

It is sad. I went through something similar when I lost my cat almost 5 years ago. I was so saddened with her passing that it took me almost one month to partially recover. I cried often remembering her.
Pets are part of our life. My cat spent many hours close to me. She was more than a pet, she was my best friend.
In spite of the time that has gone by after her death I still remember her dearly and many times tears come to my eyes.
As firtree said, just remember the good times.

My Rottweiler Steve, who has been fighting cancer for the past year, suddenly crashed over the weekend and I had to make the very difficult decision to have him euthanized. We indeed fought the good fight but despite everything the Veterinary Oncologist did the cancer won the battle. Memory is still pretty raw and I still hurt but I wanted to thank the oncologist, the surgeons and my regular vets for the care they gave him in his final months. To do that I used a Photographer's Edge card and put this photo in it. It's one of my favorite pictures of the big lug nut, taken about 6 months before I discovered the cancer and we started down that path.

As always I'd like any C&C that you might have. The original photo, taken in the middle of my pasture in the late afternoon sunlight, was a bit over-exposed so in Smart Photo Editor I adjusted exposure, lights and darks, lightened up the left side of his face as shown so his right eye could be seen and applied a gentle vignette which seemed to me to be appropriate given the circumstances.

Rest In Peace Steve ... I miss you a lot.

My heart bleeds for you. I know just how you feel. I lost two Rottweiler mixes a month apart about two years ago and I'm still not over it. The hurt never seems to end. My best to you....Rich

I too am sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy Steve. You did all you could for him and gave him great comfort. There comes a time when we can no longer make them happy, That's the time we give them to the Lord. All dogs go to heaven, they are young and pain free, with out a care in the world. I have put two poodles down and my third toy poodle is 14 and Diabetic along with Bronchitis. Her time is getting near and I love and will miss her so much but in the end we do whats best for them. They are never forgotten! Dog are so special they Love us unconditional. Who is always happy to see us more then anyone in the whole wide world when we come home. Our dog!

I'm so sorry for your loss. This guy certainly has an appealing face that makes you want to give him lots of hugs and scratches.

The best place to bury a good friend like that is in your heart!! And remember, he'll be there waiting when you get to the bridge.

There is no C&C, because your love for your friend adds incredible value to the shot. It is interesting, though, how the story behind the shot changes the perception of the shot. So sorry for your loss.

It's always tough when you lose a pet... hang in there!

The "portrait" of Steve is great and you will be very, very happy to have it in the future. The vignette is a bit "heavy" for my tastes... but if you like it that's all that really matters.

Many have seen this before but it's worthwhile to share I believe...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
