So sorry for your loss. I had a big tom cat that showed up one day. We took him in. He was so appreciative for the love and home we gave him. He didn't live too long but in that relatively short period of time he became one of my closets friend!!!!! Think of all the wonderful times Steve gave you!!! RIP

Sorry to hear that your beloved pet Rottweiler Steve has passed on... for those who are not animal lovers it may be difficult to understand that our pets often seem like our children that never grow up... they need and deserve love and attention just like children... they like cuddle time, play time, and a great deal of our attention. They can be well worth their weight in gold and then some... It is said that a dog is man's best friend... out of curiosity, I searched the internet and found the following passage on where the phrase "A dog is man's best friend" may have originated from...

*It is believed that in Warrensburg, Missouri is where the phrase 'a dog is a man's best friend' originated. In 1870 a farmer shot a neighbor's dog and, in the subsequent court case in which the owner sued for damages, the lawyer George Graham Vest gave a tear-jerking speech that became known as the Eulogy to a Dog:

"Gentlemen of the jury, a man's dog stands by him in prosperity and poverty, in health and sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow, and the snow drives fiercely, if only he can be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer; he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounter with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens."

How true this is still today... I offer this small sentiment in memory to all those that have lost a pet at one time or another...
May your pet Steve rest in peace and forever be in your heart and memory...

My Rottweiler Steve, who has been fighting cancer for the past year, suddenly crashed over the weekend and I had to make the very difficult decision to have him euthanized. We indeed fought the good fight but despite everything the Veterinary Oncologist did the cancer won the battle. Memory is still pretty raw and I still hurt but I wanted to thank the oncologist, the surgeons and my regular vets for the care they gave him in his final months. To do that I used a Photographer's Edge card and put this photo in it. It's one of my favorite pictures of the big lug nut, taken about 6 months before I discovered the cancer and we started down that path.

As always I'd like any C&C that you might have. The original photo, taken in the middle of my pasture in the late afternoon sunlight, was a bit over-exposed so in Smart Photo Editor I adjusted exposure, lights and darks, lightened up the left side of his face as shown so his right eye could be seen and applied a gentle vignette which seemed to me to be appropriate given the circumstances.

Rest In Peace Steve ... I miss you a lot.
My Rottweiler Steve, who has been fighting cancer ... (show quote)

Thank you Bruce. I actually used to live near Warrensburg, MO - was stationed at Whiteman AFB just a few miles east - fascinating.
