Philosophically sound, monetarily not. I am not spending more money and minimum 60 mile round trip to be an intellectual.

If one is a true advocate than that person should take care to purchase no foreign goods as well. IMO.

I have bought all but two of my lenses from Amazon and have had the correct warranty - I live in the UK though. The other thing is that Amazon's return policy is second to none, and if there are any issues they sort the problem out quickly, efficiently and always in favour of the buyer. Amazon's returns policy is why I buy so much photography equipment from them. The after sales of my local camera shop is a disgrace - hence I buy most of my stuff from Amazon.

I go to the local camera shop to look at the equipment and have a "play" with it (take test shots if lenses or cameras) etc. and then go and make the purchase from Amazon, where it is generally cheaper too.
I have bought all but two of my lenses from Amazon... (show quote)

This is why most Local shops are gone.

I may have to go to check-out,but I know who I am purchasing from and if it has a US warranty. Last night I purchased a lens from Amazon that is coming directly from Cameta. A couple months ago the sale was direct from Adorama and they handled an issue I had with some missing parts. Be diligent.

Online shopping is only going to get bigger. There are always fatalities with so called progress.

The retail lay of the land is constantly changing. Some changes we like and some we don't. That's life.

In San Antonio, I quit patronizing my local camera shop, when the salesman there insulted my Pentaxes with words to the effect "that we don't sell junk like that". I have not been back since. That was in about 2007.

It's hard to believe any sensible salesperson would say such a thing. Business must have been good...
