I just received a substantial amount of gift card for Amazon.com.. What are the chances that Amazon sells Nikon lenses with USA warranty?

Excellent. I have purchased lenses at Amazon for Canon cameras, always USA. If they are selling "imported" models, they say that.

I have bought all but two of my lenses from Amazon and have had the correct warranty - I live in the UK though. The other thing is that Amazon's return policy is second to none, and if there are any issues they sort the problem out quickly, efficiently and always in favour of the buyer. Amazon's returns policy is why I buy so much photography equipment from them. The after sales of my local camera shop is a disgrace - hence I buy most of my stuff from Amazon.

I go to the local camera shop to look at the equipment and have a "play" with it (take test shots if lenses or cameras) etc. and then go and make the purchase from Amazon, where it is generally cheaper too.

Amazon is an authorized distributor of Nikon products, so yes they have a USA warranty. However, make sure the listing indicates that the item comes from Amazon, and not a third party supplier.
Since Amazon acts as a marketplace, some of those may not be authorized by Nikon and may be gray market.

In most cases, an authorized distributor of Nikon products has to sell at nearly the same price as any other distributor. If you see a big difference in price, be wary and read further.

And how do you support your local camera shop?

What additional lenses do you think you need? A Macro?

A small zoom or a macro. Any suggestions?

Amazon sells name brand products from many companies, including Nikon. They also sell products from authorized and non-authorized dealers. Sometimes it is not clear exactly who you are buying from - you must read the fine print. Make sure it says "Nikon USA Warrantee". If you find it for less than the MSRP, it is probably not going to be coming with a USA Warrantee!

Exactly. There'll be surprise and outrage when they go out of business.

If what he said about his local camera shop is true then they deserve to go out of business.

One caveat, for me in Texas Amazon charges sales tax. However, if you look at the other buying options, you can sometimes get around that by through Amazon but being fulfilled by someone else that won't charge sales tax and also includes shipping. Much of Amazon's camera stuff can be fulfilled by Adorama. I always check to see if that option is there. And if not I may go straight to Adorama or BH.
