I would really like your opinions on these two. Does the 2nd one have any appeal or not. Maybe it is time to make cookies and get away from the computer!!!

I read the other posts and comments. I agree that the red tree is competing directly with the tree behind it. I also think that your intent with selective color is a way of compensating for that "sameness". I would try selecting the red tree in the color version and trying to add light or color saturation so that it becomes more prominent. There is enough variation in the cloud cover to make it plausible for a ray of sunshine to be illuminating that part of the scene. It would be lucky happenstance for that to occur in nature; but it should be achievable in post processing without too much trouble. I like the composition and I don't think I would crop anything. To answer your question: Yes, the second photo has appeal. The first does also. I think I prefer the color version; but I would attempt some modifications.

I really appreciate your ideas and comments Erich.I have just begun to experiment with PP and am taking it slow. I will keep your suggestions and give it a try as I become more familiar with PP. Thank you so much.

The first one is an OK composition. Not real sharp or bright, but layed out pretty good. I think "select" color in the second is a cheap trick and not impressive. Good luck. David I sure would like to try you cookies. Ha Ha

Linda, I like both, but prefer the first one. The second one is pleasing but I prefer to see the other building where in #2 has been cropped out. Also, the barn in #2 is sorta camouflaged to my eyes. Very nice composition and colors that stand out on both.

Need to decide if the barn or fence is the subject. If you had the best perspective the fence would lead your eye toward the barn. David

That would be nice. I don't think it was possible but someday I will revisit the scene with that in mind. Thank you.

I would approach this from a different viewpoint taking into account you say you are quite new to PP and experimentation. So get your original snap as good as it can be first. Interesting subject good composition with thought given to the viewpoint from where its shot from. Make sure its sharp where it should be and noise issues are taken care of. Get a shot you are very happy with ie you think its good THEN experiment away to your hearts content.
PP is computer based so the basic rules apply - mediocre fed in results in mediocre out.

Really like the first one and has a nice painterly feeling to it.
