EBay enters discussion on immigration

I was surprised and disappointed to find the prominent invitation to contribute to eBay's matching $500,000 commitment to opposing President Trump's attempt to put a hold on immigration from seven of the states identified by the previous administration as potential terror threats to the U.S. While this is just another expression of Silicon Valley values, I find it too offensive to ignore and have determined that I can no longer do business through eBay channels. My choices and opportunities will be severely limited as a result of this decision but most of my needs can be met directly by my favorite vendors. I preferred the "Don't ask, don't tell" polices we followed when I was in the Army but since eBay has taken a public position then they must take the consequences.

Well, I have another take on the whole issue: How necessary is the ban? Since 9/11 we've had only two immigrants do terrorist acts, the brothers who bombed the Boston Marathon -- and they were from Russia. All the rest have been American citizens whose families have been here for years. These people, native to our country, are the real problem. What radicalizes them? The ban is against 7 countries who, as far as we know, have never sent terrorists here. Two countries conspicuous by their absence from the list are Saudi Arabia who supplied all but two of the 9/11 crashers and Russia who supplied the 2 for the Boston event. Please think, people.

This may well be headed for the attic, but I have an observation. I am amazed at how a company doing business with people of various political beliefs is willing to alienate even 2 of their customers because of the political slant of their management. I really don't care what they do because it does not affect me, but it will matter to a lot of people. I promise you that it will be more than 2. ......my last word on this.

But illegal entry is not the issue here. LEGAL entry is being blocked.

I agree with the ban, up to a point, if you have a green card, visa or born in the U.S. but have ancestry in one of those countries you should be allowed in, no question. I would rather be proactive on this rather than reactive like is happening in Europe. For Europe to close their borders now, it's too late.

Actually the issue HERE is whether or not you will allow eBay to lend its massive influence to a highly charged political position without risking the consequences. The company is soliciting donations from millions of vendors and shoppers - many of whom do not share any values or culture with the citizens of the United States of America. My only recourse is to advise sellers that I would be happy to buy their goods but I will no longer use eBay to do it. Roberts Camera is a favorite vendor who has received this message and there will be others.

One day these i***ts will understand that just because the left whines and cries, their business depends on members of the right & the left, or the left, center or right thinking.... taking a stand politically can easily alienate 50% of your customer base.
