Thanks to all UHH members that replied. I'm not a newbie, although not a professional, so I do know something especially about the difference
between EF and EF-S mounts. It's true that the lens DOES mount on my 5D body but it has vignetting at the 11 end up to about 16 or 17. I got
the lens for the wide end as I have a 17-40 Canon so a crippled lens has no use for me.
My feeling about that is that both Tokina and Adorama should have made it clear that the lens is designed for APS-C sensors!
Yes, I did go through some trouble with this order, put in some time and effort but at least Adorama recognized their mistake.
As I stated in my original post, Adorama is a reputable company and I'll not hesitate to buy from them in the future.

Thank you, I felt too that it should have been made clear right on both the e-mail and their web page that the lens will not work properly
with a full frame sensor. I'm indeed forgiving if the company does the right thing by the customer.

CR, no harm no foul, BUT, NO, It is in NO way your fault. There should be no need to dig. If you know nothing about photography or lenses, you would not even have an idea that you need to dig!
I'm a fan of Adorama over it's competitors, but some of these big businesses miss typos on the ad copies and it goes out with a mistake. That's NOT your fault. I have a business and if I had done that I would have given you a $25 gift certificate for your trouble, because it WAS trouble on your end. Certainly these Multimillion dollar companies doing business worldwide could at least figure out to do THAT!!! You're a very forgiving and gracious customer!!! I applaud you.

My research was not, obviously, good enough. I didn't go deeper in part because I knew that I was dealing with a reputable company.

Agree. All companies, regardless of how good, will occasionally screw up. In this case Adorama, true to their reputation ended up doing the right thing. But it also indicates, as the OP admitted, that we all should be more self reliant and do the research BEFORE purchasing.

I guess you should have read Adoramas listing for the lens, or looked at Tokinas own site. Both CLEARLY state it is for APS-C cameras, Tokina uses the same "DX" designation as Nikon does for ALL their crop sensor lenses, and that DX is in the title description.

You're correct about the description on Adorama's listing page. BUT, neither the e-mail nor the Adorama page it took me to stated APS-C, just Canon EF, and that's the page from which I ordered the lens.

If you click on the 'Specs' tab, below the main icon, it states: Format CompatibilityCanon (APS-C)

It is ONLY Canon brand EF-S lenses that will not mount on your camera because Canon intentionally cripples those lenses to prevent their mounting.

If by cripple you mean preventing potential damage to an expensive FF EOS camera then you may be correct. That could also be considered to be good design.

Maybe value systems and judgment are a little different in Montana! Or at least in Billings.
