Another reason to question the honesty of Abe's of Maine is that their "list prices" may be fictious allowing them to claim a bigger savings than you will actually receive.

For example, their list price for Nikon 200-500mm lens is $1499. The price directly from Nikon since introduction has always been $1399.

Stay away from them --- they are bait and switch con artists.

The NEW Abe's of Maine sucks.
The ORIGINAL Abe's had a long and respected history - one of the best. They started with ads in photo magazines and have been on the Internet since it was new. Unfortunately, Abe's filed for bankruptcy in 2012 and was bought by Westpark Electronics, who moved from Manhattan to New Jersey. They still advertise as a family owned business but new owners, new location, new ethics (lack of). Now a total ripoff bait and switch operation. They still depend on the good reputation earned by the original owners.

BTW, Canon is not the same as Canon AUTHORIZED dealer.

p.s. - I forgot to mention the new Abe's has accomplished something all on their own, a 1-star BBB rating.

Resellerratings cites Abe's customer comments - all I bothered to read were about negative happenings. I just went down the list and didn't see any 'good' comments.

So doing Abe's is a gamble.

I've purchased three Tamron lenses from Abes over the past couple of years, because they offered the best price. All transactions were smooth and trouble free. All told I saved about $500 by buying from them. Not a Maine business anymore, but still a good deal, and I'd buy from them again.

I should have added that I bought from Abe's on Amazon, so that may help account for my good experience -- savings (off competitors' prices, not list prices) without any problems.

Look as I have already stated I purchased two cameras for a total savings of $1,000 -- as compared to B&H -- with Abe's -- in 2009 & 2016 -- Compared to B&H - which agreed is a total non-worry place to purchase - yes dealing with Abe's is a bit (small bit) of a gamble -- But if you keep your wits about you, have sufficient knowledge of the product your purchasing & question them & determine exactly what it is they will be shipping you -- Then as I found out twice you will get exactly what you want & have a pleasant enough experience with what I consider at a considerable cost savings. I will use these folks again

Go with a dealer that has independent ratings of at least 9.5 out of 10. Example Cameta Camera - ratings just shy of 10. All items are full USA warranty - no gray market. 30 day return period for full refund - no "restocking fees". See also EBAY ratings for Cameta - over 700,000 positive feedbacks

Nope Abe's is not in Maine any longer or Kansas,
So many have experienced the "Oh, did you want a battery and charger" subsequent phone call after your initial order, Well, we will need to add and additional charge.
Here a link to the re-seller ratings, a few good ones, but some reflect a bait and switch routine.

I found a "real" deal for Memorial Day at Abe's and ordered a Canon 7d mark ii Body only. When my credit card company declined it because of a routine fraud check I received a call from Abe's. While talking to them I asked about the camera and found it was not the USA version and declined the purchase. They then gave me the USA version with fast shipping and the "special" battery and charger package for $100 less then other companies were asking for body alone. We shall see if they deliver. Bait and switch, most definitely as nowhere on the ad did it say import version. And they did not answer my question submitted on their website about that issue. Beware, call them or better yet buy elsewhere.

What did pay? The canon 7D Mark II comes with a battery and a charger as standard. Its not an added package. I wonder if the "USA warranty" is a legitimate Canon warranty or a third party, since Abe's is no longer an authorized Canon dealer. Canon is more liberal than Nikon about fixing non USA equipment under warranty. And, if you were so uncertain, why did you make the deal? They will take the camera back if you're not happy, but they will charge you for shipping and I believe a restocking fee as well.

I admit I sometimes screw up royally. The total was 1399 including the heavy duty battery and charger and two day shipping. Still 100 cheaper than I saw elsewhere. Guess I'm a sucker for a hundred but we shall see what happens, I think a case could be brought by the State AG for their tactics, but the contact said "it didn't say USA model".

You did all that to save $100? Geez. And I'll bet this"heavy duty" battery is a cheaper 3rd party battery rather than the genuine battery. I hope the charger is a genuine Canon. Frankly I think you made a mistake and it's highly unlikely you will get a genuine Canon warranty. I thought you were going to say you saved a couple of hundred dollars at least for taking this risk, but for $100 its hardly worth it.
