A neat story with photo illustrations. Thanks for posting your evening with the dam birds.

Thanks. The dam birds have become an obsession, as I've confessed.

Well you seemed to have turned lemons into lemonade. Particularly the last three. Maybe someone upstairs had something to do with your truck problems so your would have to hang around longer to get these shots.

I made the most of it, and might have missed the sunset if it hadn't been for the truck trouble, since it didn't look like much, it was one of those where the glow after the sun is gone was much better than the actual sunset itself.

With no effort at artistic representation this time, here is a little picture story for your consideration about what dam birds do after dark. I got a chance to study this a little longer than usual last night because my truck broke down at the dam and I was stuck with only the birds and dark for companions while I waited for the repair guys to come fix things up for me.

The egrets do follow a similar pattern, much like last year. I briefly wished I'd had a flashlight with me to try and take some of them roosting after it was completely dark, but then I figured it was best I didn't, as it would probably scare them.

Suggestions, edits, ideas, comments of all kinds appreciated.

Now I understand what I was looking at on you previous picture and the triangle.

Your last picture here is about as good as it gets. Great job. Spot on!

Thank you.

(Not knowing what you're looking at is one of the points of the dam-bird project. The anomalies are part of it, which is why often I keep them in. I make no claims that this is the right thing to do, just that I am often doing it on purpose for my weird intent).

I knew that, I was just adding onto the discussion about the anomalous triangle.

I liked that simple sunset shot myself, was glad I found it! I'm gonna print it on polar pearl and see what that does.

I am glad to hear someone is printing there photos. Good for you.

Do you keep them, sell them, or give to friends?

Hey, Jim-Pops. I have 26 albums of 8.5 x 11 photos at 48 per album. Whenever I click the shutter I'm hoping it will be something printable that I don't already have. There is no denying a print. No changing of lighting as there is with the computer screen depending on the angle. Digital becomes tangible. No worries about losing it due to some electronic blip. Yes, the cost is high, but what in the photography field isn't? It all depends on where you want to spend your money - on ink, or another external digital media.

'nuff said.
Cheers, Neil

I do much of my own printing and cut my own matts. I sell a few off a gallery wall at a restaurant, hang a few around the house, and give a few as gifts.

You may have started a new Forum genre - story telling via photo. What a great idea! Also, I agree that the last shot is a winner. The illustrated photographer. Neat idea all around.

Glad you liked the idea, hope you'll share one of your own!

Actually, we've been doing Photo Story threads here on FYC for almost as long as we've been here, and also Sense Of Place threads which are similar but not exactly the same. It has even generated huge arguments about whether it is possible for photos to tell stories or not. I think they can, but sometimes the more journalistic stories can be better told with a connected series of photos.
