What Dam Birds Do At Night - A Photo Story

With no effort at artistic representation this time, here is a little picture story for your consideration about what dam birds do after dark. I got a chance to study this a little longer than usual last night because my truck broke down at the dam and I was stuck with only the birds and dark for companions while I waited for the repair guys to come fix things up for me.

The egrets do follow a similar pattern, much like last year. I briefly wished I'd had a flashlight with me to try and take some of them roosting after it was completely dark, but then I figured it was best I didn't, as it would probably scare them.

Suggestions, edits, ideas, comments of all kinds appreciated.

Fascinating and beautiful shots. The last belongs on the wall.

Very cool story, gives me a whole different appreciation of this location. Enjoyed a lot! (glad you made it safely to your own roost eventually too )

Thank you. The last one may end up as a standalone. The birds have chosen the best view in the area for their roost.

Thanks, Linda. I feel like the dam birds have a home on FYC, and wanted folks to know a bit more about them "as people". They have personalities, habits, preferences, and relationships. It is a joy to watch their world unfold.

Well done minniev and I'll agree with vicksart about the last.....or at least throw it in your gallery.

I imagine the conversation included stories about the one that got away. All fishermen should have a beautiful sunset to head off into. There's something very peaceful about watching birds fly off into an evening sky.

Thanks Frank. I was hard put to find an opening in the thicket to let me get near the water, but I did want that cool sky.

Agree. The egrets are so graceful, I love to watch them leave in a flock. Most of the time they work and move alone, but in the evening you see more unity in the group as they prepare to tuck themselves in.

As usual they are all great, Minnie. However, the last one is the show stopper/topper! Absolutely beautiful.

Well you seemed to have turned lemons into lemonade. Particularly the last three. Maybe someone upstairs had something to do with your truck problems so your would have to hang around longer to get these shots.

Thank you and glad you liked the sunset, which was a little different and crisper than our cloud formations usually are.

Thank you. That first one is more like the "regular" dam birds that have crowded everything else out of my portfolio and most of it out of my mind. Their unique world has me hooked.
