I just ordered a canon pixma 100 to replace my Epson r3000 that dyed. b & h had it for $379.99 with a $250.00 rebate and free shipping. just wondering how many are using this printer and how they like it. I loved the Epson but the head got plugged, got it working after about $300.00 in ink. worked for a couple week and plugged agin.

I love making 13x19-inch borderless color prints with my Canon PIXMA Pro-100. This printer has an heated printer head, which prevents ink clogging jet nozzles, even after prolonged non-use.

Do you have a monitor calibration device? Absolutely essential in making correct print brightness, correct colors, and proper contrast.

thanks for commenting. I am glad to hear you like it I have had my Epson for years and the only problem I have had is the head getting plugged. I can not afford to spend the money to get the head clean all the time.
You said it has a heated head. Is it best to leave it on all the time?

I've been using a Pixma Pro for over a year now and some long periods between uses with no problems with clogging. Great printer and great prints.

I've had this printer for a couple of years. I don't print much, and I've never calibrated my laptop monitor (not sure I even could). It has never failed me. I get prints that look pretty much like what I have on the screen. I usually print a 4x6 first, before doing a 13x19. The only problem I've ever had is printing on certain papers. I tried printing my brochures, and I got black ink smearing on the leading edge of the paper. I called Canon and they sent me a "fix." I did it and it worked. One thing I really like is that Canon has such good customer service. They even help with really old printers!

No. A Canon printer takes longer to arrive at "READY" from OFF status, exactly because time is needed to properly heat the printer head. Once the READY light is on, you are good to go, with clog-free ink nozzles.

You're probably going to notice a difference: the R3000 uses pigmented ink, while the Pro-100 uses dye-based ink. Print longevity will be less, but most of the colors will seem to be more saturated, particularly on glossy paper.

If you want to learn more about the Pro-100, have a look at this guys videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/cheo1949/videos
He suggests that you leave the printer turned on, because every time you turn it on, it will waste ink as it prepares to print.
You will also learn that the printer has a internal timer and even when left on and you haven't printed in sixty hours, it will waste ink when you to ask it to print.
He suggests that you print something very small within that time period to reset the timer.
I've tested what he is saying, and found it to be good advice. He also talk about using third-party inks.

My personal experience with a Canon Pro-100 is contrary to your advice. I turn it off at end of printing day, and it does NOT waste ink on start-up; that is an Epson characteristic. Please provide documentation that a Pro-100 shuts down after 60-hours continuous 'ON' with no printing.
Opinion is NOT fact.

You are the guy who said "I will likely never buy a Canon printer. because Epson printers have always worked well for me." at http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-352260-1.html#5926292
Prove to us that you own a Pro-100. Otherwise, you are just looking for an argument.
