I'm sure you know that Canon makes a couple other printers that are a lot cheaper that print up to 13" wide. The key feature on the Pro-1000 is the 17" width. I saw one at a photo show and it is very big.
I need to revise something from my earlier post.
You're not going to buy a set of ink for around 350 dollars. Ink carts for this printer are 60 dollars each. Somehow, as I researched this printer I decided it used Canon PGl 29 ink and saw some good bulk prices on the Canon site.
Today, I visited the Epson site to compare the Canon with the Surecolor P 800. I learned it also has 80ml carts for 60 dollars each.
This got me to wondering, so I returned to the Canon site and discovered my mistake.
I will likely never buy a Canon printer. because Epson printers have always worked well for me.
When it comes to a new printer, the hard part for me, is convincing my wife that I need one.
Why not get a imageprograf ipf670 $1159 with a 24" roll feed for about that much.
Many years ago I purchased an Epson R-2400 photo printer and was using a Windows computer making awesome color prints and fabulous Black and whites, a few years after I upgraded to a Mac and found Epson does not support drivers for the R-2400 on the Mac platform making that printer lousy as a photo printer with very little control as it had before the generic driver they suggested. Due to this I refuse to invest my dollars in anything Epson.
