Are you saying that students have NO SELF DISCIPLINE when confronted with endless possibility to make exposures???

As an instructor, I would confront that potential lack, head-on, with specific assignments designed to encourage the thought process. You DO NOT have to use film to do that.

Exactly. The inside of your camera had nothing to do with how disciplined you are.

The first thing I did was to compare two set of pictures
(1) original slides
(2) a 3000x2000 scan of each of those slides
Every feature I identified in (1) was also in (2), so the digital format was a perfectly good representative of the slide

Your method is so flawed it's terrible. You cannot compare properly the way you are doing it. A real test has to follow the scientific method to be as accurate as it can be and yo have not done that. Those that have done it have found that digital has a long way to go to match film. This is way film is making such a comeback and why every decent photo college also teaches film along with digital. Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, said to have the best photo program in the country (originally set up by Minor White) teaches film and digital together and has a vastly stocked book store to prove it. Anyone looking for supplies (I hear B & H can't ship chemicals anymore; don't know about them) and can't find what you are looking for, call their book store; bet they have it.

Ironically you seem to be arguing with yourself, because back on page 2 of this thread you agreed with

I'm glad to see that Ektachrome is back, but I probably won't be using it. I still shoot a good bit of film but only b&w. For color, I'll stick to digital.
That is OK. I have told you what my testing shows. I'm not going to argue opinions with you, but you may argue with yourself if you are determined to disagree with someone.

Your problem is that you read something and twist to be what you want it to be. I never said I didn't like slide film. I agreed I was glad it was back and also supported the desire to Prefer B & W. That doesn't mean I may never want to shoot slides, now, does it. You seem to have a comprehension problem and you have no idea of knowing how to test or compare things either.

Having done a bit of E6 processing & color printing back in the day, although I'm new to the digital world and particularly postprocessing, given the almost unlimited possibilities, I see no reason why I'd want to go back to film. Maybe this is just an academic exercise, maybe an interesting debate but I'm wondering if anyone out there as a different opinion & if so, why.

Love film!

however it is best to do so, beginning with 5x4 view cameras rather than miniature photography or digital image making devices.
