SS

I started working when I was strong enough to push a reel type lawn mower; I was a teenager when I saw my first power mower. I bought my own shoes then. I had two pair, my loafers and my boots, square toe, mule ears, wide throats with riding heels.

Did you used to work at Kodak in the camera division. They couldn't tell the difference between a fine piece of glass and the bottom of a coke bottle!

Not only did I work for Kodak as you described, I was in charge of procuring the Coke bottles used for lens testing.

For those idiots, it took a lot more than that. I suspect that politics played a role in their destruction too. I read an article that claimed (and presented evidence to the fact) that Hillary Clinton, single handedly destroyed Kodak. Sure fits in line with the globalists' agenda to destroy America's industrial giants. Worked at both places when I was younger and I saw several stupid moves by both companies when working there. Knew a few of the giants at Xerox and they were not dumb people; actually very intelligent and good business sense (at least the one's I knew); so political destruction of Xerox is a lot more believable than for Kodak. Personally, I don't think Kodak execs' need much help from Hillary, the company was doing a great job all on their own.

The idea that Hillary Clinton was involved in these matters is probably the most idiotic and ill-informed conspiracy theory I have ever heard. I read an "article" that said that she was also involved in the cause of the Korean War, the Flint, Michigan drinking water crisis, the California drought, and today's snowstorm on the east coast. Next time you read an article like this, consider the source and exercise common sense.

Yup and if the executives had removed their ties at work, allowed the blood to flow to their brains so they could think like a human being, they quite possibly could have been the kings of digital photography. Seems Rochester, NY companies all suffered from the same stupidity. Xerox could have been the computer kings if they didn't drive away all the software geniuses they had and marketed their operating system.

Kodak had a brief flirtation with digital. I had a Kodak P880 non-interchangeable lens DSLR. It had a Schneider lens and made beautiful images. It was only sold for a year or two. They never took the next step. They must have thought that digital photography was just a temporary blip on the radar. Reminds me of my boss at a small advertising agency. It was at the time ATMs came out. He maintained they were a fad that would never take off. "Who would want to go to a machine, when they could go to the bank and be helped by a human being." BTW, for all of you ready to trash me for calling the P880 a DSLR: a reminder that it can also stand for Digital SINGLE Lens Reflex. >Alan

Welcome aboard! Hang on tight, this thread is spiraling out of control (not an uncommon phenomenon).

My first real camera was a hand me down bellows 620 with a Schneider lens on it. Learned how to use a light meter and focus with a tape measure. It was a point, set and pray camera. Then I learned how to mix chemicals to process and print pictures in my laundry room. Imagine how excited I was to get the Hanimex with a Pentax mount. Then an AE-1 with some nice lenses and a few cheap digital cameras followed . I bought a decent Canon point and shoot film camera that we all could use. I still have my father's favorite TLR Rolle. I don't use it but would never sell it. I bought the D3200 a couple of years ago. Still learning about PP but with UFRaw and Gimp. Looking into other PP packages, too. I might try film in the Rolliflex if I could locate a darkroom I didn't have to buy.

Keeping in line with the original question:My first camera was a Brownie box camera. I was about ten yrs old and took on a Photography 4H project. That would have been in 1955. That little piece of magic (the Brownie), fueled a lifetime love affair with photography. I do not remember if it was that Brownie or a subsequent camera that sparked many photography questions, such as: If I have a flash bulb on the camera, but no film, will the flash still go off? Only one way to find out, so I did it......

That hag gets around, so don't be so quit to say she's innocent of anything because I wouldn't anything past her. I've found maggots in the trash that had more credibility.

I know they did and they could have been a leader in the whole industry, but executives who had the hind sight of an amoeba decided to stick with George's century old idea of a cheap hunk of junk with the coke bottle lens that every idiot could carry around and waste their money on film. You should have seen the pallets of silver bars Kodak went through making photographic paper. Today, that one pallet would be worth millions.

And Trump, by comparison is a blessing. Never lies or distorts and has a honest, honorable business history. Worst case, it's a tie. I wish both parties had nominated better candidates. >Alan
