Just a bragging area from my WV County.....
I grew up nine miles from here in a little railroad town on the Greenbrier River called Ronceverte....
classmates used to caddy over there on summer breaks from school....
I lived on a farm and didn't get to do that....
folks that stay at the "Greenbrier" also have another town, Lewisburg",
(
http://www.lewisburg-wv.com/history.htm )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3t0b-buWR4Y&feature=relatedwhere they can spend the day shopping....
voted one of the "Coolest Towns" in the US...lol!!
Don't know if you saw this video on another of my links,
but check it out and you'll have some idea what to expect around there....

Thanks for the response.......from NC, you're not that far from there.......
just across the Virginia/WV border on I-64('bout 30 mi. from Covington, VA)......
depending on where you are in NC, of course.....
Just drove through there a few hours ago. I'm posting this note from the dining room at Hawk's Nest.
OMG can't wait to enjoy all your links of the Greenbrier..great memories of visits there from college sorority conventions (and summer romance on the Greenbrier River) to visits thanks to UCC when we lived in Fayetteville and Elkview near Charleston. Many good times spent at Hawks Nest golf and pool and stays at the Hawks Nest Inn. This was way back in the early 70's. Is the Inn still there? Such beautiful country.

Thanks for your great response about my home State...
and, the Greenbrier......
I also attended a nice dance there while dating a student from the Greenbrier College for Women in Lewisburg...
two of our party were from Havana, Cuba and were there attending this college.
My college was WVIT in Montgomery.....did you know of it??
Don't know if there's a Hawk's Nest Inn but there is a Hawk's Nest Lodge at the Gorge.....
here's a link describing the facilities there......

Thanks for you response.....how did you like the view from the Hawk's Nest State Park overlook? Were you traveling from the Charleston area in the West or from the East from Rainelle, etc.?? I know you're on a slow trip as this road is pretty "twisty"....enjoy our state...

We drove a 'loop' from Central KY, north into Ohio, east across most of Ohio, a 'spit' of WV, near Wheeling, into PA, south into MD & back into WV to see Harper's Ferry, then into VA & on to DC for a quick visit, then to Front Royal & Skyline Drive, a bit of Blue Ridge Parkway to Buena Vista, then west via I64 & US 60 to home. The view has always been spectacular at the Hawks Nest overlook. And the story about the tunnel through the mountain for the river & how many people got so terribly sick & died from the minerals they inhaled. . . Anyway, home now.

That was quite an interesting "excursion"......
glad you had the opportunity to enjoy "my" State, LOL!!(Even though I now live in Virginia)......
thanks for sharing your trip with us....
next time you're in the area of the New River Gorge, you may want to check this location.....
another spectacular view....
and, on your I-64/US-60 trip from Buena Vista, VA, you drove right past the Greenbrier Hotel......
do you remember the "Rest Stop/Welcome Center" when you crossed into WV from VA??....
You could have seen the hotel from here....
all you would have had to do was get off at the first WV Exit and take US-60 through White Sulphur Springs, WV...
or, maybe you have done this in the past.....
