Don't buy Topaz for full price. I pid 1/2 price. Sign up for their newsletter and take online seminars and you'll get discounts. Maybe they'll be a new years sale.

Yesterday, I went on line and checked out some software I've been interested in for a while. I installed the Nik Collection- it's free and downloading and installing were done in under 15 minutes. Now to start playing with it. Many of you have done some very nice work with Nik.

Then I checked out Topaz - another one that has impressed me. The whole package goes for 500 bucks! Individual parts, like Glow, can be had for 40 to 50 bucks. My question: is it worth it? I'd appreciate your opinions on this or any other packages you might enjoy working with.

My primary processing software is Elements 13.

Thanks for any constructive advice.

Why people go for full PS I don't fully know... with Topaz Suite you can do many things in moments that wold take time and learning in PS ...PS13 is enough for a sound base for the tools.

Also check out Jixipix.com

I bought Toon It plug in for Aperture (Mac) and appreciate the watercolor setting which changes a photo to the most elemental shading that can now be copied on a page with watercolors. Great for the aspiring watercolor artist. It has a great range of other settings like comic, drawing, etching. Anyone else use it?

Dennis, Nik has everything you need to edit photographs. As a bonus, it is free.
Why spend money on other softwares? Phtoshop Elements and Nik is more than enough for anyone except professionals.

I have NIK, Topaz (full collection) and ON1 plug-ins.
I have tried them all, and I find that my "go-to" plug-ins are 90% of the time the Topaz. I like Adjust, Clearity, Simplify, ReMask, Impressions, and Glow.
And with Photoshop switching from Refine Edge to Select and Mask, I find that Topaz's ReMask is so much easier to use, and much more accurate. Topaz is worth if just for ReMask, and the rest will just amaze you.

You wont enjoy it as much as using NIK because NIK is free. I'll tell you this, just because NIK is free, doesn't mean that it's cheap or that it's not good. It works great. I hope that someone will take over the NIK license and keep improving it and keep it alive.

I'm also using Element 13 with Perfectly Clear as a plug in. So far so good.
Perfectly Clear support is fantastic. It's so easy to use!

Some of the Topaz line is worthwhile, much of it is just weird style changes. Their DeNoise is pretty good. Also ReMask. However, I am now on my third week of waiting for a response from their support people. Not a happy camper.

Adobe is a very smart company and they have watched the development of the plug-in market. If a plug-in offered something that users could not find in Photoshop, the Photoshop developers added it to Photoshop.

So, I suggest that you switch from Elements to the latest version of Photoshop. No need for plug-ins! Photoshop CC 2017 has shifted many powerful editing tools to Adobe Camera Raw (ACR). Literally any photo editing task that can be done in Photoshop or, a plug-in, can be done in ACR. I used Nik for several years (along with a handful of other plug-ins) and it is my opinion that any editing task that can be done with a plug-in can be done in ACR.

On NIK software...

Originally this was made for Nikon and sold to others as a plug-in sort of an afterthought.

Seeing the the plug-in market was good, Nik went alone and cancelled Nikon licensing. This was a big mistake.
The company went down in a couple of years and Google purchased it in order to add to other projects they had. Google being google after a time lost interest and just dropped NIK making it free a year later.

Now what is the future of NIK? It is anyone's guess.

As to the use of plugins??? YUCK!!!

That is my opinion on any and all plugins. Learn your post-processing software and you will be amazed how powerful it is and how you can grow by doing instead of copying set solutions...

LOL! Learn to take a shot without blown highlights first. Worry less about what format other people shoot in. It is none of your business.

I am shaking in my boot.

Here, have a mirror, better yet, take a selfy of your own whatever you use to 'speak' with. Either way, it is a stink hole.
