Lost Mose Allison also.

Regarding Desmond---no one could ever come close to what he did on alto sax. The first album I ever got (mid fifties) was Brubeck and Desmond. Still have it in storage. Need to get it out and play it sometime.

I am going to do a post on Mose Allison. He died the same month as Leon Russel http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-429207-1.html

Thanks for this. I've been a big fan ever since I first heard "Strange Meadowlark" from the "Time Out" album (first Jazz recording to sell a million copies). His work over the years as been simply wonderful, groundbreaking, great to listen to, enjoyable and he swings. Can't ask for more. Luckily, we have so many of his recordings to keep him with us.

My pleasure. He was a great artist.

Thanks for posting this. You are missing Dave's last 18 CDs for which I was the recording engineer and my wife the piano tuner/technician. They are on the TELARC label and represent some of Dave's finest (at least in my opinion)

My pleasure. I still have his original LP "Take Five". I just didn't have time to post all Dave's stuff but thanks for the reminder. As I recall you were the recording engineer for Oscar Peterson weren't you?

Thanks Brian!! That's quite a collection!! I hope the attachment works. If not, let me know I'll PM.
BTW:Here's another Oscar Peterson cut. It's one of my favorites. The base solo, probably by Neils Pederson, is incredible. The cut is from Oscar in Paris, disc 2. Here' that Rainy Day/We Will.
Enjoy,
Mark

Thanks! Lots and lots of great memories with many of the top jazz players. As I mentioned in a previous post, Oscar had a serious case of GAS and, when we would get together for a "record date" (what the old timers called making a recording) the first thing he wanted to talk about was what was new in the world of camera gear. Great fun!

It is especially interesting to know that Take Five was recorded in1959, along with Miles Davis's Kind of Blue the same year. They are still among the most popular recordings in jazz history.

I bought them both in 59' and caught Miles in NYC the same year - Birdland and Brubeck on Randall's Island. Vivid memories.
Thanks
Mark

Thanks for the remembrance - I will go play my copy of Take Five. First heard it in the early 60s when I was in college, and it's still a standard used to audition audiophile equipment.

I to liberated a copy of "Time Out" that has my fav. "Take Five" in 1960 while stationed at Tachikawa, Japan. and I also purchased my first Canon, the Canonflex 2000 which is a super film camera w/a shutter spd of 1/2000, and a removable prism w/ground glass viewer, that came in handy while on TDY to DaNang Vietnam, the chicks didn't like you taking pictures of them so while I was siting at a booth I slipped the prism off and since it has capability of split view focus was easy.
