I'm looking for a little guidance with respect to photo painting software. I have been doing some research on line and my efforts to download trial versions of either Dynamic Auto Painter or Topaz Impressions have been unsuccessful. What bothers me most is that I think I am seeing evidence of possible interference with these sites and possible hijacking of potential users. Does anyone on the Hog have any recent experience with these companies and their software? Most discussions about these on the Hog are old, at least the ones I've been able to locate through the Hog search tool. I do not wish to cast aspersions or foment any conspiracy thinking about either of these companies, but something about the searches I'm making and the results I'm seeing gives me pause and sets off alarm bells. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I am seriously interested in using a good, well-evaluated painting tool and would welcome hearing any recent buyer's opinion and experience with anything they might recommend. Also, which site should I use to acquire a legitimate copy of what I would pay for? I'm looking to not get taken or spoofed by malicious software or phony vendors. Thanks in advance for your input.

Corel had 2 photo painting programs, I use the less expensive, and it has a lot more capability than I ever use, you can get a 30 trial if I remember right, I use it for auto painting ( conversion?) of some of my photos. You can see some I've done on my Tumblr blog and Flickr site. Bob.

If you're looking for software to convert photos to paintings, take a look at Fotosketcher, it's good and it's free

I Just upgraded Dynamic Auto Painter from version 4 to 5, without a hitch. It's not the least expensive painter software, but I feel it gives one an awful lot of latitude in the final result.

Photoshop has a "Oil Paint" filter built in. I think it disappeared in a couple versions, but it is back in the current CC version. The couple times I tried it, I liked the results better than from Impression.

What I meant by photo painting software in my original post was software that converts a photo into a similar image that looks as though it had been created with paint and brushes. Usually you can select from an array of various artistic styles when you do this, such as Renoir, Cezanne, Rembrandt, etc. You are then usually given some degree of control over customizing the finished look, from selecting various brush attributes, to choosing substrates such as canvas or other textures. With the right images in the right hands with the right vision, powerful and beautiful results are possible.

Cool, that is what I thought you meant but wasn't sure. There are several pictures that I have taken through the years that I would love to convert it to a "painting", but I don't have time nor desire to learn the program nor want to spend the money on the program. If you have time and would want to I would pay a reasonable fee to have a couple pictures converted -
Thanks

Tell you what. If you are still interested after the holidays (when I will have more experience with this software, not to mention more time) I'd be happy to have you contact me by private email and we could discuss further.

I have used many types of computer painting software over the years including the ones you mention. The ones you mentioned will give you a warning when installing but I have had no problems when they are installed.
The best and most expensive is undoubtedly Corel Painter. A good alternative and cheaper would be Painter Essentials, also from Corel.
A little known application from Eastern Europe is Rebbell, not particularly easy to use but you can get some extraordinary results. I would advise you to download a trial of any of the programs mentioned.
