What software are you using for your panoramas? I use one called Autostitch, which is a 2D stitcher that doesn't require any input from the user except to load the photos (in any order, but they all need to be oriented the same). Some panoramas produced with that product can be found here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/collections/72157635051585998/
and I'll post a couple of them as examples

I like the Autostitch product (which I got for free) because it's very easy to use. It only works with photos that have been taken from the same point, though, and if there are any features near the camera it is important to rotate using the front of the lens as the center to avoid parallax problems. (In other words, don't hold the camera at arms length and rotate your body, as would be done with a P&S--try to keep the lens in the same spot.) It is also important to get the exposure the same in all photos to be part of the panorama--I admit I don't always manage to do this, and it shows.

This also holds for the CF cards which are more quickly replaced by the SD cards. I for one will be starting to "bulk-up" on CFs so I can keep working with my Canon EOS 7D. I bought it new in 2013 and I'm not doing MAJOR-major volume, so I've got a LONG way to go before I think about the mechanical fail window.

I've also taken to formatting cards to keep up the rotation of what I D have. I download each day's shoot to the computer, then save that folder. The Very Next thing I do is to do a double-redundant backup. At least one of these is on non-magnetic media.

Works for me. :-) <K>

My question was directed to the poster who indicated that his panorama software didn't always work and offered a recommendation on what I use. I apologize if that was inappropriate in this thread.

Yeah, maybe but still off topic.

I have old SLRs and other cameras that go back to the '60s and '70s and a camera that belonged to my father from the '30s that are still in good working order. However Jim Bob's original post specifically asked about DSLRs so that's what I reported on. If you know anything about Jim Bob you would realize he doesn't appreciate extraneous information that goes beyond the scope of the original question. He asked about DSLRs only so I gave him exactly what he asked for.

Thank you and most posters for sticking to topic.

Was that within the warranty period?

I am using Photoshop Elements. It does fine most of the time but occasionally has an offset at the horizon in order to match up the foreground. Here is a good result.

I know this does not address your question of my personal experience, because I haven't been doing it long enough to wear anything out, nor have I needed to have anything repaired but, I found it interesting and is at least on topic....mostly.

Estimated Shutter Life of Popular DSLR Cameras (Real World Figures)

These figures are provided by the website olegkikin.com that maintains a Camera Shutter Life Expectancy Database based on real world data submitted by Internet users. Figures are average and as on Dec 26, 2012.

Your post is on topic and I thank you for it. I had previously visited that site and wondered if UHH members' experience was consistent with its findings.

Well, I'm a little curious now too. I do know that I will likely not live long enough to even come close to the estimated lifespan of my equipment. I suspect many here won't either, with exception of pros and folks that spray and pray Though I do rack up the shutter count when focus stacking

Although I have not conducted a scientific survey of all posters, thus far it seems that those who have experienced issues are in the vast minority. I find this truly amazing.

I had a SLR fail due to a drink being dribbled into it when in college, don't ask. I had my Rollie twinlens lock up one time only to work perfectly after taking to a repair shop in the late 70's, and ever since. Still my favorite camera. I've only had two digitals and oldest, bought in 2005 still works, just low on megapixals.
