random nice idea if a tad worn but if you do not disclose what it is about the book record or movie that moved it to the top of the pile nothing is actually learnt about the person and it allows very possibly the wrong perceptions to take over. ie if Mr C finds Miles Davis boring he may think that makes you boring. Also it will stop wags such as I giving you a pile of crap in the name of fun ie book 50 Shades of Grey - record Burl Ives Greatest Hits - Movie The Muppets.
So elaborate, reveal your inner soul. Tell us why these three things made you get your rocks off, what moved you, what made the hair stand up on the back of your neck. You do that and I will certainly join in.

Okay young Billy, my tale of my three choices.

The book. I read this while in university. The title Gravity's Rainbow refers to the parabolic
trajectory of the V2 rocket. It is set in 1944 England. To quote the NYT it is" bonecrushingly dense, compulsively elaborate, silly, obscene, funny, tragic, pastoral, historical, philosophical,
poetic, grindingly dull, inspired, horrific, cold, bloated, beached and blasted. It is, in one word, a masterpiece" I still reread it.

The music. I have an eclectic taste in music from classical, the Grateful Dead, blues, but I am a jazz fan mostly. Sketches of Spain is considered one of Davis's best recordings. I concur. Every time I listen to it I hear something I haven't heard before.

The movie. I like Philip K. Dick. I enjoyed the book (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep)
and enjoyed the movie as well. What I thought made the movie was Vangelis soundtrack.

Now young Billy, put it out there. There will be no judging, but I will ask of you what you asked of me. Elaborate.

No, no photo. I am sitting here on this drizzly night listening to the Coyotes sing, 1/3 of the way through a bottle of Dalwhinney, pondering my place in the universe (no not really!)

I thought, let's put the vagaries of photography away for day. Yes folks it is the dreaded deserted island thingy. List one book, one recording, one movie (this island has power) you would take with you. You will be surprised at the different tastes but you may be more surprised at the similarities.

Me.
1. The book- Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon
2. The recording- Sketches of Spain - Miles Davis
3. The movie - Blade Runner.

Partake if you wish.

Book - The Bible
Recording - The Human Menagerie by Cockney Rebel
Film - Harvey The 1950 version

OK Mr Random The bible not because I follow any religion and its fair to say I struggle to believe a man was killed and then rose from the dead. But the Bible whoever wrote it contains some amazing and incredibly powerful stories. Stories one can always relate to real life. David and Goliath Adam and Eve Moses receiving the 10 commandments etc. The simplicity of 10 rules which if we all followed would result in a much better world. A large book written by a bunch of anonymous people no one knows quite when which still has enormous relevance today.

The Human Menagerie has a track called Sebastian which was a hit single all over Europe other than the UK and probably unknown in US. As soon as I heard it I bought the record and discovered the amazing world of Steve Harley the lead singer and song writer. He was a young man at the time with many influences. His songs have been described as mad formless imaginings about doomed decadence. He has a haunting voice and to this day I can listen enjoy and find new things in this album. It was released in 1973 and has a great photo on the front cover.

Harvey The movie introduced me to the world of the Pooka. An imaginary friend. I believe we all have them and the movie sort of legitimized what had been going on my head as a child and made me realise how important a pooka can be and how some people still hang on them in later life for support.
Edward P Dowd, played by Jimmy Stewart, has a gentleness which I find endearing.

There ya go Mr random. I do not think anyone will try and decipher what my choices say about me lol

Great Cellist, maybe the best ever. I could live with that.
