Thanks Bill appreciate the feed back. My practical side says as a non professional who enjoys quality photos not for profit. Is to buy the Sigma 300mm prime or the 120-300mm sport.Which both cost 2700.00 less then the Canon. I feel the average person wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

I have the Sigma 120-300 2.8 model 2 not the model 3 MT was quoting. Purchased it off Ebay for $1400. The only thing it is lacking is the dock, a little better weather sealing. Great lens have been using it for BIF, barrel racing, baseball, and soccer. Little on the heavy side. Also use the Canon 300 f4 IS, light, fast lens and a lot easier to hand hold. Can compose better with the Sigma Zoom.

Have you considered the Sigma's 150-600mm OS Sports or Contemporary zoom lenses? Not as fast, but more versatile.

Not fast enough unless venues are extremely well lit. Otherwise one would be forced to shoot at very high ISOs. Not a good choice in my opinion.

Yes I agree I need 2.8 minimum. The venue has poor lighting. It varies from different points in the rink. 8500.00 budget to spend on a 300mm 2.8 and a canon full frame body and a monopod. Best products to buy? Not necessarily the most expensive

With $8500 to spend, I suggest you do some serious research and not give UHH posts too much weight. Frequently, posters here make recommendations on equipment they have never used or only for stuff they have actually used. Regardless, you could always consider refurbished or used models to save a little money.

Missed it on first scan but went back and edited after more careful perusal.
