I've used Nikons since 1967, as well as a host of other cameras and formats - Alpa, Miranda, Pentax, Minolta, Contax, Ricoh, Contarex, Canon Rangefinder, Leica Rangefinder, Horseman, Sinar, Linhof, Mamiya RB67, and some I no longer remember. I still come back to Nikon for some reason, though I did like the features and functions of the other cameras as well. I am sure whatever you decide you'll be happy.

That is one ounce out of about 4 pounds or 64 ounces between the body and lens. You will never feel the difference, even after toting the gear around for hours.

I was surprised that Nikon eliminated the ultrasonic sensor cleaning function in the D3400. All of the recent Nikon DSLR cameras have had that feature. Its pop-up flash has only one-half the power of the flash in the D3300. I think Nikon might be trying to reduce costs. Getting the D3300 would be good.

Stick with Canon. Your pics won't be any better or worse with Nikon. Both are excellent brands, but you are already familiar with the way Canon does things. This advice is from a Nikon user.

Oh you'll really start something now.

Enjoy your search and whatever you buy.

BTW switched from Nikon to Canon some years ago. Go figure.

Happy shooting.

Well Ill say this. I have been a Nikon Owner for many years. I just sold my D5200 the other day and yesterday, I bought a Nikon D7200. I'm awaiting it's Tuesday morning arrival!! (considering Sleeping pills until then to make the time go by) :) Anyway, I shoot pictures for our church and last night at service i had to pull out my Cannon T3i to get me by. Well I havent used it in at least a year. I was shock and saddened by the shear limitations to the camera settings compared to my Nikon D5200. ISO jumped from 1600 to 3200 then topped at 6400 while the Nikon would be 1600 2000 2500 2800 3200 4000 5000 6400 and THEN HI1 and HI2 all the way to 24600 if I remember that correct number. That was just one set of adjustments. Everything I did last night was limited to working the few adjustments I had to get good pictures.. The camera does shoot great pictures but I spent more time working for them than I did finding the right shot. I guess if you just want to point and shoot with what you know and are comfortable with that then its the camera for you. My Nikons Challenge me and give me so much more flexibility to get where I'm going. Also I can shoot using 50 year old Legacy lenses that have some of the finest glass out there. Yeah you shoot manual but thats what I grew up shooting. It's worth the picture quality. Make your choice with what ever you feel best with, but do the research. Ask more questions and dont be afraid the to break away from the dark side of the force. :)

Both make excellent cameras. you didn't mention what lens your using switching to Nikon could get expensive. I use Nikon because I like the layout of their controls.

I was in that very same boat, a while back, and I did switch from Canon 6D to Nikon D610. It was an expensive switch, but I was convinced that Nikon was better. After one year of shooting with my Nikon D610, I am pleased with it, but I cannot truthfully tell you thst it is better than the 6D. I see no significant difference or better performance between the two brands. So, my advice is, if you like the Canon, stick with that brand, especially if you have several lenses with that camera. If you want to upgrade, and you have been pleased with the Canon, upgrade your Canon. Believe me, Nikon and Canon are equal in performance, no matter what other, more die-hard model lovers say. Just my two cents worth.

First let me say that I am a Nikon person. Personally though, there is very little difference between the two brands. Certainly not enough to justify changing from Canon to Nikon unless, you don't already have an investment in lenses that will support the camera you want to upgrade to, OR the company's lenses are not compatible to the upgrade and you would have to replace your lenses and (possibly) other hardware such as strobes, filters, etc. Nikon has been adamant about making sure that their lenses are compatible across the lineup since (at least) the middle 80s. Canon has revamped (sometimes with good reason to take advantage of new features) their lenses forcing users to replace lenses as well as bodies. (This isn't true across the entire Canon lineup but was frequent enough to force owners to have to verify which line of Canon bodies they had) and I think Canon has since solved this issue. Both companies cameras are extremely good and basically 2 sides to the same coin. Owners of each brand are no different than Ford, Chevy, and Chrysler owners in that they swear that their brand is the absolute best, regardless of how often they have to push the vehicle back to the dealer. I've owned Nikon since the early 70's and think the world of them, but I also have worked with Canon and theirs are fine too with the possible exception listed above. Nikon chose to make certain adjustments (which sometimes hindered altered the performance of the lens compared to the equivalent Canon) in order to maintain across the board compatibility. Their only major exception was by requiring lenses with the built-in Silent Wave Motor for their low end (D3xxx and D5xxx) cameras in order to auto focus.

what is the difference between the Canon 40D and the Nikon3400?? If you switch make a big switch go for a nikon7200 or a D500. If you stay with Canon get a camera you'll have for 6 years or more. Put the cameras in your hand. They should feel good in your hands.

I have the D3300 and it is great. I searched for quite awhile for a beginner's DSLR Camera, this has had very good reviews, many You Tube videos on it too.
